If you are going to a tourist area not much, most of the resort area staff speak English. It wouldn't hurt to know a few simple phrases though.

If you don't plan on leaving the resort, you won't need any spanish. But you should learn some basic words anyway, you'll feel better if you can communicate, even just a little. |

NOT MUCH, I HAVE BEEN TO CANCUN AND MOST OF THE LOCALS COULD SPEAK ENGLISH. |

You will probably have an easier time if you at least learn how to say please and thank you and other basics. It is true that many people do speak English. But in my experience, you receive better service if you try to speak to them in the native language. |

Well, actually a taxi is called a taxi in spanish.....if you say "car de sitio" they will have no clue what your're saying. I've never even heard that word before......... |

If it's a hotel-type place practically none, the staff is required to know basic English |

Not much, everybody who works in the tourism industry can speak english. |

well..im mexican and i can tell you that u really dont need that much...just know ur basics..and besides they always have people that speak english there...just know how to ask for stuff..or places...but if u need any help or any questions just e mail me at ambarpauley39@yahoo.com |
