There are good ways in the north of the bay and around the northern tip. You have long rolling waves and fast barreling waves in this area, called Punta de Mita. Further north there are also fun waves in small towns like Sayulita, San Fransisco, and San Blas. There are almost no waves in the heart of the Puerto Vallarta. If you want waves you will have to travel a little. I know there are some waves south, but I do not know too much. Have fun!

Definatley go to Sayulita. Its not far from Puerto Vallarta. But just be careful about the locals surfing too, i heard theyre not really into the tourists because Sayulita is just becoming popular.

Like others have said, you need to go north. Punta de Mita - Sayulita area. I've only been there in the late fall/winter months and haven't seen waves that I would consider challenging for an "advanced" surfer. Maybe the surf is bigger in the Summer? Beautiful place anyway - no matter what kind of surf there is. Sayulita is full of surfers.

helllo, if you want take i good waves you need go to a littel twon near to Puerto Vallarta and the name of this place is SAYULITA o they other place for good waves is San Pancho and Destiladeras.

jack in Los Ayala
see bryan n/ adventur/ Mayra/ Janet C - they are all dead on. I havn't seen much heavy surf (Nov - May). Los Ayala is abt. 45 miles N of PV & we only go there when necessary for shopping or medical. Bueno suerte'.

I'm not a surfer myself but some of my friends are.
They always go to Vallarta and they say there are all kinds of waves.
Some cool beaches they hit are in the surrounding area. And they are not full of tourists. When you get there, ask the local surfers. They can take you there.
