It's a little tricky. There are money exchanges all over the place, but almost everywhere... what am I saying?... EVERYWHERE takes U.S. currency. I still exchange some and pay with whatever gets you the best deal. Some places give you good exchange rates, others don't. I end up doing a lot of math as I am a penny pincher, LOL... Well a penny pincher who travels to Mexico often.
Your personal products cost more down there than here because they figure tourists will think it's cheaper and not bring stuff with them, then what? Go without, most won't so they pay a premium.
Enjoy Cancun... If you get a change, snorkel or dive Cozumel. It's one of the best places in the world. |

the dollar goes along way there , for shopping, they luv us money
or Brit pds
just remember everytime you buy something
u will get pesos for change,
keep that for for tipping and little stuff
u don't not want to bring any back so if u want to buy
only buy what u need in the beginning preferably at your resort
prob the best rate if u ask |

I understand USD readily accepted. If you need to check rate for MXN see converter below |

Lots of places in Cancun will take US money but you may not get the best exchange rate. Usually the best way is to use an ATM machine to get money or for bigger purchases use credit card. |

Congrats!! I hope you enjoy Cancun! USD is readily acceptible in the Hotel Zone. You will get change in Pesos. There are Banks and ATMs in the Malls (Plazas). ATMs are free of charge to use, But, check to see what your Bank will charge you for using the ATM. Remember, most ATMs give money in Pesos. So, when you see amounts like 100, 200, and so on, that's about $10 to $20. If your Bank charges you for the transaction, I'd suggest withdrawing 1,000 Pesos rather than a 100 at a time. Just so you know, most Hotels do not give a good exchange rate, nor do the ATMs at the Airport. Tim |

Peso is about a dime, but varies a little daily. Dollars are fine. but expect your change in Pesos, then exchange them at the airport on the way home. Please give big tips, smile alot, be nice and remember Cancun is a pretty wild place, not the locals so much as all the drunk Americans, so stay with your friends. We have always been further South in Akumal, Talum and that area is more laid back. |

Spending dollars you will get a terrible exchange rate. Change cash to pesos at "casa de cambios" and get pesos at ATM's |

$1.00 US dollars is equal to approximately $10.96 pesos (as of Sunday's exchange rate) I find it easier to do the exchange as soon as I get there so that you can spend it without the hassle. |

An exchange house will give you the best offer. For everything else people will accept dollars (about 10 pesos per dollar), not coins and probably nothing bigger than a 20.
Cancun is expensive, since it is not an industrial city. Prices are more or less the same as in the US. Imports (as sunscreen or american food, chips, etc) are more expensive, since they carry a tax. |
