I took my ATM card and just took cash out as I needed it. There are many ATM machines everywhere. You get pesos, of course, and you get the exchange rate for the day. I think it's more convienient and you dont get charged for exchanging money.

take both

You can take dollars and either spend them or exchange them for pesos at Cambios (these are booths set up around tourist areas for changing money). Travel guides advise you not to change money at the airport since the fees are usually higher there. Whenever you change money it will cost you a small fee. This is sometimes negotiable.
Before you travel, check on exchange rate so you don't get ripped off. Yahoo has currency conversion website (see below). Prices will be marked in pesos, so you will need to know the conversion rate to see if you want to spend that much anyway.
The farther away from local tourist spots the greater the need to use pesos. Large american bills will be more difficult to use at samll businesses than small ones.

when i went there i took some dollars and euros, you wont have a hard time even paying with dollars even only one dollar
so just take dollars and change them there bit by bit
and wherever you are in Mexico they will never refuse dollars, but don't be surprise if they sneak and try to buy your dollar less than what it is worth....

Take US Dollars and a Credit (ATM) card. ATMs are everywhere and you can use US dollars or exchange them if need be later.

This depends of the amount of money your want to bring. For me, because I am very cautious, usually I take travel checks (you can change those in any bank or in American Express) and also cash. The exchange rate in Mexico has been some kind stable the last months and the variation is around some cents. But in any case my recommendation is: bring 60-80% of our money in travel checks and the rest half in dollars and half in pesos. An additional tip, the exchange houses pay better for large denomination bills, then rather to bring one dollar bills try to have twenties or one hundred bills. But again this depends of the amount of money and where you will expend most of your time. Credit and debit cards are welcome almost everywhere in main cities and also are a lot of ATM machines, but you should be aware about fraud using cloning techniques.

Either is good, you can get American money converted there but just to be safe take both.

A mixture of both is good. You can usually pay for everything by US dollars in most tourist resorts in Mexico, but there may be the odd vendor or taxi driver that wants pesos.

if you are changing from english pounds change to pesos, they will be accepted in every place, dollars only in some places, in tourist locations dollars are well accepted but you will get a worse rate in every place than in an exchange place or a bank. So if you are not stoping in the us dont egt any dollars.

Where in Mexico will you be going? I know that in the northern counties and towns, U.S. Dollars are welcome and commonly used, but I'm not sure the same would be true away from the border. So, depending on where you're going, I'd say a mixture of both will probably be best.

You can exchange your american dollar in Mexico, make sure you exhange at a "casa de cambio" translated "house of change" because they will give you the best rate. There are people on the streets that will exchange your money, but you can get ripped off.
