In Cancun Mexico what currency is more widely used is it the peso or the US dollar?

Since it's Mexico the official currency is the peso but US dollars are accepted everywhere in Cancun, although the exchange rate is not the best so try to get pesos in a money exchange booth at the airport or a bank (better exchange rates than at the hotel zone). In almost every shop or business you'll find the prices marked in both pesos and US dollars so feel free to use whatever currency you have but keep in mind that if they need to give you change back it will be done in pesos.

Most people take dollars, no problem. Check the exchange rate. Most people use the "official" rate but if they're doing it 10 to one b/c the official rate is too difficult to deal with, go ahead and get some pesos. Very few places take pesos only. Oh, and if you need money, ATM's only dispense pesos.

?
pesos because you are in Mexico, but most of turist places accept dollars, the only down on that is that their rate is very bad, you are better off exchanging money before your arrival.

It Is all Pesos, But there are money changing booths everywhere in the tourist zone, or can be done at your hotel.

Rebecca
All places take pesos.. but i don't think it'll be hard to use the US dollar. But definetly using pesos is more convenient.

The Peso is the national currency but in Cancun in the "Zona Hotelera" Hotel Zone they handle both USD and Pesos.

Most Americans will tip with dollars but for hotels, excursions, purchases and dinners they will use a credit card. For lunches and small expenses they will use pesos.
Europeans will use pesos. Why exchange twice.. So the answer is half pesos and half $$$ in Cancun.

If you are going to use $$ they should be in good shape. No ripped or old crumbling money.

Tony B
They want money!! Period!!

Sax Player
Last time I checked, the peso was the currency in Mexico.

Everyone has their own view on your questions, some people swear by the peso, some don't, I take my money out from the ATM's........

=)

I'm not sure who has been to Cancun out of all your answers (sounds like almost none)...they definitly take US Dollars...its very tourisy there and they know that...now you can exchange it at most of the hotels if you need to.

peeches40219
From personal experience, use the US dollar. The vendors there are overly helpful when you use the US dollar. This is because the US dollar is worth about 10 cents more than their peso. Carry small US bills.
