Since it's Mexico the official currency is the peso but US dollars are accepted everywhere in Cancun, although the exchange rate is not the best so try to get pesos in a money exchange booth at the airport or a bank (better exchange rates than at the hotel zone). In almost every shop or business you'll find the prices marked in both pesos and US dollars so feel free to use whatever currency you have but keep in mind that if they need to give you change back it will be done in pesos. |

Most people take dollars, no problem. Check the exchange rate. Most people use the "official" rate but if they're doing it 10 to one b/c the official rate is too difficult to deal with, go ahead and get some pesos. Very few places take pesos only. Oh, and if you need money, ATM's only dispense pesos. |

pesos because you are in Mexico, but most of turist places accept dollars, the only down on that is that their rate is very bad, you are better off exchanging money before your arrival. |

All places take pesos.. but i don't think it'll be hard to use the US dollar. But definetly using pesos is more convenient. |

The Peso is the national currency but in Cancun in the "Zona Hotelera" Hotel Zone they handle both USD and Pesos.

Most Americans will tip with dollars but for hotels, excursions, purchases and dinners they will use a credit card. For lunches and small expenses they will use pesos.
Europeans will use pesos. Why exchange twice.. So the answer is half pesos and half $$$ in Cancun.
If you are going to use $$ they should be in good shape. No ripped or old crumbling money. |

From personal experience, use the US dollar. The vendors there are overly helpful when you use the US dollar. This is because the US dollar is worth about 10 cents more than their peso. Carry small US bills. |
