In Cancun - Xel -ha or Xcaret?

Also what is the time distance to each from Cancun and from Playa Del Carmen?

Xcaret is beautiful !!!!!!!

To get from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen, the best method of transportation is by bus. Not the normal city bus, they have chartered buses that go direct to and from. It takes approx. 35 mins, and is the least expensive option.

A taxi cab will overcharge you and if you rent a car, the drive will probably stress you out....the bus is great, and runs all day.

GO TO XEL-HA! My husband and I went there in 2003 while we were on our honeymoon. To this day and many trips to other coastal Mexican cities, it remains our favorite place we have been! It is very natural and has tons of really cool wildlife. THe water was a bit cold when we went in December, but that didn't keep us from doing everything they offered. Definately go snorkeling, as they have free food to feed the fish and they will swarm all around you. Definately do the natural "lazy" river-- the mangroves are beautiful and tower over you... it feels like you are in the jungle... my husband loved the cliff jumping that you could do while floating down the river... he would hop out of his tube and I would float and watch as he jumped about 3 different times. We also took the nature trail which was fun, and I heard that the cave snorkeling there was a blast although we were not able to do it. The hammock island there is to die for-- it's not actually an island but has this huge patch of palm trees towards the front of the resort with over 100 hammocks set up for people to lay in... my husband was in HEAVEN!!!! The park features both salt and fresh water so there are definately a variety of fish to see... you will not be disappointed!

I drove both places from Cancun, no problem. Just like driving in US, pretty much. Both are touristy, but Xcaret is built only as a tourist place, Xelha is an underwater national park, which is kind of unique.

Time is about 45 minutes. Xel Ha and Xcaret are both good, depends on what you want to do. Xel Ha is great for water stuff, like snorkling. Xcaret is kind of like a zoo with a little bit of water stuff. The dinner show is pretty good. But it's HOT there.

Xel- ha is an hour from cancun Xcaret is 45 mins away

i've been to XEL-HA and i am not sure exactly how long it took to get there ---i think it was a 2 hour drive.
we stayed at club med in cancun and they had charter buses that took us all to xel-ha for the day. it was really alot of fun.
i hear that if you take a cab it will be too expensive, unless to you money is no object.
and good luck if you try to drive yourself
