No, nothing is forbidden. The story about the mayonnaise is not true, mayo is very popular here. The prohibitions for Muslims and Jews are true but that's because of their particular religions, it has nothing to do with the country because they have to behave the same no matter where they are.

Mayonnaise is prohibited.

This dates back to the early 1900 s when Mexican cities were first getting electricity and refrigeration,

The president of Mexico sent his brother to England to buy the machinery to make the mayonnaise. His brother arranged to have the equipment shipped on an ocean liner to NY and then a steamship to a Mexican por

The Mexican people were ready to welcome the freighter as a factory was built to accommodate and package the mayonnaise, but when the ship arrived all they brought was word that the presidentes brother and the equipment was on the Titanic and of course lost at sea.

Because of that tragedy mayonnaise is considered bad luck in Mexico.

In fact every year they commemorate the event and the loss of the mayonnaise. It is called Cinco de Mayo

Muslims and Jews in Mexico don't eat pork and other foods that each group refrains from.

Catholics refrain from eating meat on Friday in Lent.

Many people in Mexico are careful of the sugar, sodium, salt, etc in the food they eat because of medical advice.
