LA is way worse, than many parts of Mexico. Just remember the poor are very poor and the rich are VERY RICH, big socio economic gap |

It's easy to think that. It's also easy to think that southern U.S. is nothing but yokels, Or the French are all stinky snobs. ... Don't give in to broad generalizations about countries or cultures - it's the narrow minded thing to do.
Here's some of my experiences of Mexico:
Mexico city is vast and has both insanely rich and desperately poor people. The upscale neighborhoods scale up the sides of steep cliffs and have some of the most amazing architecture I've ever seen. The museums are phenomenal - especially the anthropology & modern art museums. There are pyramids jutting out of the middle of downtown, shadowed by the main cathedral. You can eat any food you like there - the Italian, Chinese & French restaurants are on par with ones in the U.S. There are shopping malls that make ours look like junkfests AND don't have the same chain stores over and over again. What else?...I have found bootleg/out of print industrial/experimental band cd's there that I had no luck finding at home...
Outside the city, there are small colonial towns with cobblestone streets, cathedrals, plazas lined with trees, markets selling hand made textiles, pottery, figurines & other local crafts. These places are beautiful and magical. The people are proud and hard working, and in a lot of areas still wear traditional styles of clothing. In the south, there are still people of Mayan descent and they still speak Mayan languages. Some don't know spanish!
The rest of the world goes down there and sit their butts down at a resort beach where everything is fake and USified and never see what is really there. You CAN'T get Mexican food in the U.S. This schlock they call Mexican food here is an embarassment. It's like if we all still ate chop suey and thought that was Chinese food.
Anyway, I've given you some examples of why Mexico is not a flea pit. There is good and bad, poor and rich, greed, ignorance, innocence, intellectualism, fine art, folk art, high tech, old school and everything in between.
Sound familiar? |

Well it's sad to say but some of the places are. Some families don't even have a home they live in boxes...the ones fortunate to have a house are lie really bad houses made of straw. Others towns are really fun and beautful like Cancun, Cozmel,RivearaMia ect.... |

that is a terrible question to ask! some parts of mexico are not so clean, and it is fairly run down from the hurricane, but it is certainly not a flea pit! |
