Mr. Bugsme

Is Mexico now a narcocracy?

It sure seems like things are out of control down there - totally corrupted by drugs.
Additional Details
Good points - I do think that US drug users are making a substantial "contribution" to the problem. Without them, the cartels wouldn't be able to do what they do.

It seems that that is what the media wants us to beleive, however if we choose not to put our energy to those ideas and rather work and pray for a safe country, that's what we (Mexicans) will have.
As for a tourist, I think most of the territory is safe, just use your common sense.

And what about the U.S.where all those drugs are USED? Please remember thare is a lot more to Mexico than just the border areas with all the drug related problems.

Yeah! Right on as usual Charlie!

Guess who is financing the narco-war against Mexico? The US drug users and the spineless US government which won't stop the epidemic of drug use in your country! It is the billions of dollars that the AMERICAN drug users send to Mexico that finance their friends in the drug cartels. It is the billions that the American drugs users send down here that finance the murders of our most honest and dedicated police chiefs, officers, judges and district attorneys.

In the past 10 years the Mexican government has increased its budget 500% for infrastructure, industry and vocational training to keep Mexicans here working in Mexico and every single centavo has instead gone down the rat-hole of fighting the war on drugs financed ENTIRELY by the US drug users!

Thanks a lot, you gringo crack heads!

for many years federal administrations created a wrong balance on drug lords, fighting only one cartel that was rival to an other, with this it kept the Pandora's box locked, politicians had their share of recognition by taking large amounts of confiscated drugs from one cartel, and violence was not spread out ....since the government was fighting the war for the rival cartel. A war between rival cartels never occur.

The problem evolved, and now a drug war exploted and politicians can not hide it no more, ... Now the Government is fighting the war they didn't wanted to fight.

But some how the drugs cross the border into the USA, and there is not big amount of noise about that considerable amout of drug after crossing into the States!...why not??? seem like that drug disapears??? and it comes in large numbers that later are distribute all over the USA??......there has to be big distributors in the USA don´t you think?...I think that in the USA there is also a Pandora's box that no politician dares to open.

In my opinion this problem has scale to to this point thanks to politics....Mexico blames the States for consuming drugs and smugling guns into Mexico, and the USA blame Mexico for drug traffic....and thats has been the policy for at least 20 years....some how this way polticians make drugs traffic somebodyelses problem to blame....too bad..

As long as the USA and Mexico don´t fight this problem together this will keep on growing....

Remember the apache conflicts in the 1800, it was until both governments work together that apaches stop using the border as a safe heaven to runaway from American troops and Mexican troops alike and the legendary Geronimo finally surrendered.....

In this case, in my opinion, is the same, for example when Mexico confiscate a large amount of drugs they should look where in the States that cargo was going to, and keep the investigation running... not only make a big show of the tons of drugs destroy for the News....those drugs were heading somewhere....Right now the investigation stops at Mexico ...¿¿¿???. and i almost never see confiscation of drugs in the usa on the news as often that i see them in Mexico or in the same amounts ???

Remember the Drug wars are happening since they are fighting the territory to smugle the drugs into the USA???.

Something is very wrong don´t you think?

Mr. Colibri makes an excellent point, we blame Mexico but it is our consumption which is supplying the money to the cartels to fight the war and kill people. Mr. Bubba is right on the money too, politicians never seem to want to solve anything, they just want to lay off the blame on someone else. And until we all work together, there will be NO solution.

Mr.Luis - yes, yes, with money it is easy to corrupt poor countries, but I'm afraid Sir, that without the DRUGS there is no MONEY!

It might look like it but it was way worse when Party P.R.I was running the country,i have heard stories where the own president(CARLOS SALINAS) used to lend out his Jet to smuggle drugs from Colombia! They used to call the Government NarcoP.R.I!!! Whats happening now is that thier are alot of Cartels and their fighting for territory! And when the P.R.I was around well they were the only Cartel, their were others but they would bring them down cause they worked with the government, thats y they were called Narco P.R.I !!! P.R.I is like democratic and republican just to let u know what P.RI. means! And about corruption in mexico, its always been around and its not cause of drugs, its ABOUT MONEY!!! Everybody in Mexico wants some!! Dont blame them, alot of poverty their, thats why their is alot of corruption!!!
