Mexico is like any place else in the world where people live. There are good places were you can walk down the street without being bothered and there are places where you lock your car doors and keep driving no matter what.
If you just go there without any fore thought about were you are going, where you are staying and the general environments you will be putting yourself in, then bad things can happen to you. The same as ending up in the wrong neighborhood here in the states.
Economics has a lot to do with ending up in the wrong place. The poorer a country the more wrong places there are. I've traveled Back East, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East and I have had some very good adventures in all of them and some hair raising experiences in all of them. Washington DC is as bad as any but all depends on which street you go down.
Research where you are going, check the State Department website or use travel agencies the first few times you go someplace different. But if something does not feel right about where you are turn around and get out, that's here or there. |

depends what u want to do there. if u want to go and party get wasted and be rude to people there then yeah not a good place for u or ur friend. i went there and amazing. got to rember not like here in the us. we got a hotel, view churches and things to buy are unique. horse riding, bull fights and every night is a fiesta. just brush up on ur spanish lol. |

Well, I just returned from 8 days in Puerto Vallarta. I went alone and walked pretty much everywhere at all hours of day and night. I got lost one night and went down some pretty spooky looking streets with very few lights. I finally flagged down a taxi to take me back to my hotel.
No one ever bothered me and I never had a bit of trouble anywhere. People were very friendly and helpful.
Just don't go down there and get drunk and obnoxious. Respect the country and their traditions and you will be fine.
One final note. If you are going to Mexico City be a little more careful late at night. It is not quite as safe as Puerto Vallarta and Cancun.
Have fun |

i think that your friend is wrong in some parts of Mexico are bad but not all parts your friend probably needs to re-think his back ground knowledge. |

Just like everywhere else there are good parts and bad parts...the larger cities (i.e. Mexico City) are worse but if you go with a local it is much easier |

Mexico its not bad..its just the lack of jobs...theres almost no jobs..thats why people come to the U.S. i mean if there was Jobs in Mexico...Nobody would be migrating to the U.S.....its like people from other countries too they migrate to the U.S. to have a better job.. you know? |

There are few places in world that are absolutely safe. I live in rural Mexico and never feel the impending doom that others feel. I've been chased by a weird guy in Paris, pickpocketed in Aix en Provence, robbed in Chicago, largely because I wasn't paying attention. Its never happened to me again. Mexico is a grand place with all its problems, I love it here. |

mexico is a beautiful place, but just like everywhere, there is good and bad parts, if u want to get drunk and stupid, well then some harm may come to u, but if u conduct yrself properly, it's all good. mexico is a poor country which depends on tourists. but most of the people are great. love it there. |

Depends on where you go. I go there and visit my in-laws in a non-touristy area and have been safe there and never felt like I was in danger. Just use common sense and caution. |

My suegra (mother-in-law) lives in Monterrey, Mexico. She is scared to death of coming to "The States" (All those killings and gangs they show on the TV!) She was very scared the first couple of times my husband came here. Actually, all the "bad" things that are shown on the TV about Mexico... they see the same "bad" things on their news station about us.
I lived in Mexico for 4 years and never had any problems. There is good and bad anywhere you go in the world. |

It depends on were you go. yes in most areas it is very bad.But the touristy places and safe. This is where that area gets all their money so they make it safe. Be sure to stay in the touristy areas though. Why not just go to the Bahamas just as nice and no safety issues |

For one thing you have stupid friends. Is like saying Germany it is not safe place to be because of the skin heads. Any country you go, there will always have hot spots areas land. Come on dude! |

It really depends on where you go. If it's in the tourist areas, then it's really nice; the people are very kind, and the land is beautiful. But most of Mexico is not really somewhere that i would recomend vistiting or living. (I'm not very informed about Mexico, but I'm fairly sure that this info. is corect)

P.S.~ there's alot of websites that talk about this topic, try looking it up. |
