I've lived in Mexico in a state Capital (Oaxaca) and I don't think of them as dangerous. Oaxaca spent a long time on the state department "travel warning" list because of the constant riots. Mexico is not really that dangerous for Gringos. They are often targeted for petty theft and are an easy targets for corrupt cops, but the rate at which people are actually hurt or murdered is extremely low.
------------------
Probably about 17 thousand people are murdered in the United States in a year. Maybe 135 US citizens are murdered in Mexico. About 5.8 million Americans fly to Mexico in a year, and another 13 million drive there. The overwhelming majority of US citizens that are murdered in Mexico are engaged in very questionable behaviour.
------------------
There is no travel warnings to Pachuca and I've never seen anything. It's not like you are hanging out in Tepito.
------------------
The state department keeps a running list of every US citzen who dies from a non-natural death abroad (for the last three years). There is no mention of Pachuca.

I live in Mexico and it is less dangerous than the US. Comooon!, if you are a careful person you can live anywhere in Mexico.

Pachuca is the state capital of Hidago state, is very close to Mexico City, and has a population of around 250 thousand so is not like a big City, is not dangerous at all, the crime rate is low, but due to how close is to Mex city and to Ecatepec (a not so safe city) in the State of Mexico, the city gets some imported thieves once in a while. but basically is a mid size city with a calm life style.

NOT at all.....
