Is a passport needed to travel to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico or is driver's license/birth certificate enough?

Passports are required if you FLY to Mexico. This has been the law since Jan. 2007. If you travel by LAND or SEA, you need a photo I.D. and proof of citizenship...EITHER a passport OR a birth certificate. See site below and read carefully for the current info. There is a GREAT deal of misinformation given on this subject, so best to read for yourself. See 2nd site for all passport appliation info , if you need that.

If you are coming from the states then Passport mandatory for flight, however if you are traveling by cruise, no passport required.

DannoREA
Passport required unless you arrive on a cruise ship

Photo Drivers licence and birth certificate are all you need unless you are driving and then to bring your car in you do need a passport and best to have a credit card. Gring
If you are flying you DO need a passport

linlyons
