Rocky Point ( Puerto Penasco) is located on the western coast of Mexico , on the Sea of Cortez, between the west coast of mainland Mexico and Baja California. Cancun is located on the far eastern tip of the Yucatan peninsula, on the far eastern part of Mexico...they are hundreds of miles apart. Hurricanes do not cross hundreds of miles of dry land...they strike along coast lines and weaken dramatically when they go inland. Here is a map to help you visualize where they are. |

Tropical storm soon to be Hurricane Dolly, will hit south Texas, and North Mexico where I live, Cancun is now free of Dolly, tomorrow is going to be an interesting day for me! |

It was only a tropical storm when it passed the Yacutan Peninsula. It is gaining hurricane strength as it heads to Texas (after passing the Cancun area).

It is important for people to know this, it is a shame everytime a storm is becoming a huracain the massmedia and newspapers hit cancun harder than what the strom could do it. even the huracaine hits Yucatan peninsul does not mean cancun will be hurt but by the news and the over reacting comments of this people.
I am serius, With Dolly we just had lot of rain for 2 days, but everything is ok and now he have sunny days... I hope the news do not damage Cancun anymore, We are ok... |

As of 7AM 7/22, the storm had already past the Yucatan peninsula and was headed for the Tex/Mex border area. it is only suppose to be a category 1 hurricane at the time, just a puppy for these areas which can see major (cat +3) hurricanes on a regular basis. |
