Anything is better than cash - BUT - if you only take the debit card, and lose/misplace it, or have it stolen ---- what's your plan B??? |

I would bring some cash and the debit card. In case the debit card didn't work. You may need to let the bank know you going out of the country. It may need to be activated for international purchases and to keep them from flagging for unusually transactions. Don't know why people say debit cards are not protected. They are at least in the United States. Up to 2 days you are only liable of 50 dollars. Up to 60 days only $500.00 and even some banks eat those fees. There is also zero liability protection from MasterCard/Visa. The key is reporting you card lost or stolen quickly. |

bring your debit card then bring extra cash but not too much-- just enough to get you by on yer vacation. I'm sure you'll feel better in the end. If u decide to bring cash you might find it gone! |

I would take a credit card if you intend to pay it off when the bill comes. If you want to dispute a charge, you can only do that with a credit card. Using a debit card means that the money is out of your account and you have no leverage or recourse. |

It all depends on what you have planned to do. If you're going clubbing, the debit card should do it. But if you are going to visit the flea market and such, it is better to take cash, as there are lots of people who sell you things in the streets and dont have a way to charge your card. If you are worried about being stolen, don't worry, cancun turist-area is among the safest places in Mexico because the government wants the people to feel safe and keep comming. |

It's better for you to carry the debit card instead of cash. |

As long as you be very careful with your card it will be Ok...
Really, not always your card will be secure in a hotel safe and credit card fraud is common often everyday...
I like better feeling how much I'm spending and force my self to control, than crying with no solution at the end of the month with a huge amount of shopping which seems at the moment like "not so much" |

I would bring a tiny bit of cash and hide it in case your debit card is lost or stolen. Make sure you call your bank and let them know you are going on a trip or they may cut you off because they think it could have been stolen. It happened to us one time. |

If you are staying at an all inclusive you should only need cash for tips (if you paln to tip). And if you go out to a club it is best to use cash. I would bring cash and most hotels have an in-room safe. The debit card in this case seems not so useful you cannot use it to tip and at a club it would probably be a hassle. And if it gets stolen your out of luck |

If you bring cash and want to buy souviners , you can make really good deals if they see cash. I would bring enough cash for souviners and debit for sightseeing. |

You are better off bringing your debit card than actual cash as for you can always cancel your card in case you lost it.. be sure to read your bank's advise on the subject by visiting their online page, calling customer service, or going in person before you embark on your journey.
If viable, you should try to get traveler's cheques by American Express, they are the best thing you can carry and they are replaced almost instantly if you loose them or they are stolen.
However, bring some cash (no more than $200) to pay taxi cabs, tip, and any other minor thing for which you might need cash. Don't take more than that, and if you do, make sure to ask the hotel you are staying that you will need a room with a safe, or if they have one accessible to clients.
I hope you enjoy your trip and have a lot of fun. Cancun is a great place to visit. Have a happy tequila time.
Good luck!! |

I would suggest travelers checks. If you lose your debit card or it is stolen, you will have a hard time getting any money. I had all of my cash stolen when I visited London one time, and it was so hard for my parents to send me money. So travelers checks would definitely be the best bet. |

Don't forget, sometimes the ATM's in Mexico don't work OR they don't have any money in them. AND they may only be in spanish...so that can be frustrating if the only word you know is cervasa! I always recommend bringing some cash & a credit card with cash withdrawal abilities....I also recommend telling your bank you are going away, or they may freeze your account when they see international transactions happening. If you decide cash, maybe make some travellers cheques. |

I would advise you to buy traveler's checks. You could lose your debit card and someone could easily clean out your bank account. Traveler's checks act as cash, and if lost in most instances can be replaced. |

Some debit cards have no fraud protection if you give the person your card or number. So if you give an employee your card and he charged you $1500.00 for a $5.00 Popsicle, they won't reimburse you. Believe me...I know.
I'd take some cash and a Credit Card with good fraud protection and not a debit card. |

No debit cards, get travelers checks-- if someone steals your debit card, you are screwed. |
