Is it cheaper to buy a Chichen Itza all inclusive day trip from Cancun on Priceline.com $90 or buy it there? |
We are going in October and its going to be a 6 of us. Priceline doesn't give group discounts I don't think so I'm wondering if it will be cheaper to buy the excursions at the booths when we get to Cancun. Does anyone know how much an all inclusive trip would cost there? |

It's better to purchase them once you arrive in CancĂșn. There are always people trying to sell you excursion packages all over in CancĂșn. The good thing about it is that if you know how to bargain with people you can get great deals. Also, most to the resorts have people on site with whom you can book excursions through. That's all I have ever done. Usually with whom I book the whole trip with, let's say for example Funjet, a Funjet representative is always in the lobby if I need help with anything or booking anything. If you walk around the hotel zone you will also have people trying to sell you packages. One time I had a guy stop me on the street to try and sell me one so I kept talking with him being friendly. He started asking me if I knew how to speak Spanish and I said I did so he started asking me all these questions about CancĂșn in Spanish and I was answering him in Spanish and he was so impressed he gave me an excursion that was $65 for $35. So, yes if you can bargain with people you can get better deals once you arrive. One tip I will give you is...don't act too interested and they will keep dropping the price until you agree. All the excursions are different in price, but most are anywhere from $40 USD (United States Dollar) to $120. So, my advice...YES, wait till you arrive before booking anything. Good Luck and have fun CancĂșn is a blast!!! |

For six people, I'd say rent a van for a day or two. I checked out Dollar's website and they quoted $47 USD per day from the Cancun airport for a mini van. Take the toll road to Chichen Itza, it's modern, in great shape and fast. That would be much cheaper than the packaged trip for sure. It's easy to get to Chichen Itza from Cancun, there are so few roads it would be difficult to get lost. Everyone who tries to sell tours will tell you it's dangerous to drive in Mexico but it's not really, they just want you to buy their tour.
You can get a guide at the Ruins, I'd guess that for six it would work out to about $10 each for a guide.
If you rent the mini-van you'd be looking at $47 + tax and insurance + gas - let's just say that brings it to $120. Then the tolls - they are about $19. Admission to the ruins $8.50 per person (guessing, it's been a long time since I've been to those ruins). Guide $60. Lunch at a local restaurant $10 pp. So for six people that gives you:
Car & gas $120
tolls $19
Guide $60
Admission $25.50
Lunch $60
total $284.50 or $47.42 per person
If you'd rather just sit back and take the tour that's fine too but I'd say book it when you arrive. That way you can pick a day that is convenient. Perhaps a day that's forecast to be not a great beach day. |

I just took a cab to the bus station and we took public transportation for just a few bucks each...we noted the time to catch the bus back and all went very smoothly. On my second trip, I went to Coba from Chichen Itza, Stayed the night, and saw Coba's ruins thr fo;;owing morning (early to avoid the crowds. from there, Tulum is very close and that puts you back on the coast. Cancun is only a short trip north from there. leave Cancun early, cause Chichen Itza is a big place. |
