I live in Mexico and I can unequivocally say that the media is being very sensationalistic and have blown everything way out of proportion. Not to say that there hasn't been some violence, but it is not directed at innocent tourists.
Mexico is not a good place to be involved with drugs, or to break the law in any way. Don't do that, and you won't have problems.

Thanks for sharing that essay. Be sure to share it with the next person who asks an "Is it safe" question, because they get so many "No it's not safe" responses from people who believe everything they hear on Fox News. But they've never been to Mexico. |

Oh, Lord... another one believing what the news say. My friend's parents told her not to go to Latin America because it's "dangerous"... wait! Puerto Vallarta is in Latin America!!! so it is dangerous!!! lol (can someone tell Americans that Latin America is a continent made up of many countries with lots and lots of cities?).
I live in Houston, I think Houston is more dangerous than Puerto Vallarta: a friend's son got shot in a parking lot, another friend's house got broken into in December and they stole their Christmas presents, last weekend someone broke the window of a car that was outside of this little bar in the Heights and they stole a purse... I could go on and on, but this is where I live and I have many reasons to like Houston (which I am not going to list here because this question is about Puerto Vallarta). Bad things can happen anywhere. Ignorants are the ones who believe that those exaggerated stories on the news happen in every corner of Mexico. |

Read this article in The Truth About Mexico.
I am tired of people responding to Questions about "Is Mexico safe"? by saying that it is dangerous,,yada yada..
I just came back from 6 weeks in Mazatlan, Sinaloa. Sinaloa is the state that gave birth to the two largest drug cartels in Mexico.
I had an enjoyable vacation, the climate, people, culture was wonderful and will be going back every year.
It is definitely more dangerous in America! |
