Is it feasible to save money and move to Mexico and can Americans make a living there?

Wouldn't try personally...cost of living is cheaper but so are wages by far. And Americans are not looked on too kindly when it comes to any type of dealings with police or politicians. I know of people who bought dream home down there on the beach front only to have developer come in and bulldoze beach front for apartments, nothing they can do at all...

hellll no, Mexicans can barely make a decent living there. The country is way beyond corrupt! Seriously though if you apply to a major corp you can make good moneyeny but Americans cant buy any land out there,....only in Baja

MrChili
Oh, sure, you can go to Mexico and work. Just be sure to ask yourself why they all come here, and have a good answer before you go.

I know someone who did it and he's pretty happy. So yes I think it's feasible as long as you realize the risks involved as well as the cost, time and planning that are needed to pursue such a venture. If you're skilled in vocation or profession people demand (he's a tree surgeon) you can go almost anywhere in the world and use your skills to make good money.

My husband has been doing a lot of research on this. Seems like you can live there for less money than most places in the U.S. However, jobs are few and far between and they will not give them to a gringo. You have to have a certain income to be allowed to live as an immigrant.

Mrsashko
You can make living anywhere, it just depends on what can you do???

Hi,

yes you can move to Mexico, but to really get the arbitrage advantage of the low cost of living you have to keep your american wage in a way or the other...

Otherwise you will be paid in local currency at the local average wage, and then NO you won't save.

The ideal situation is to keep your $10/hr income (assumption) and live in any mexican city which has a considerable lower cost of living than their american counterparts. This is the only feasible scenario that can make you save a lot of money (or live like a king)

There are tons of people that are retiring to Mexico. I would not recommend moving there to work unless you have an idea for your own personal business in mind. It's tough enough as it is.
