Is it okay to travel to Mexico at the moment?

And if it's not, why aren't the borders closed?

There is NO Health RISK in the Cancun area at all. There are NO Travel Alerts are issued for this area at all. Cancun is open and doing business as usual. The strong swine type of flu is all over the world now, not just Mexico City. The W.H.O. says, "To restrict travel would be useless and not helpful". E-mail me directly in Cancun at robert@cancuncatamarans.com I have lived here 8 years. Anyone that says Mexico is not safe is an uninformed fear-monger and not a very smart person. They are only out to spread fear without knowing the facts, plain and simple.

No it is not safe.
The borders are not closed because thousands of Mexicans work in the US and cross the border daily in order to get to work

Mexico is an important ally and trading partner of the United States. Our borders would only be closed during wartime. As I said before this is not 1918, we have better hygiene, and medicines, the tag of pandemic floating in the media 24/7 has made people crazy. Tourists should take care where they visit,Mexico City is huge, many poor people who are more likely to pass along a virus. Resorts are taking every precaution to make your visit safe.

In answer to your question.... where in Mexico are you planning to go ?? It is a huge Country.

Some parts of it are a little dodgy right now due to the Swine Flu, however, much of the Country is still safe and a great place for a holiday.

The Borders are open because it's one of the busiest border crossings in the world, and despite all the Media Hype, not everybody in Mexico has the Swine Flu or is in a drugs cartel just waiting to smuggle drugs across the border or murder tourists.

The big message is out there at the minute "Don't Panick" in reality there is more chance of getting hit by a car or shot on one of the big cities in the USA than something happening to you in Mexico.

Life is full of risks... think for yourself instead of listening to the media, especially the brainwashing channels like CNN, and take some !!

Common on, people! Use your common sense! Every time you get on a bus, plane, subway, you are exposed to all types of viruses. Quit letting the media control your mind! There are confirmed cases all over the US, so do you think you are safe at home either. I guess all of these people who are telling you not to travel to Mexico are hiding out in the houses! Yeah right!

IF YOU ARE ASKING THIS....THEN ASK YOUR SELF THIS IS IT OK TO TRAVEL TO THE USA...ITS THERE TO...THE REASON THE BORDERS ARE NOT CLOSED IS...THIS IS ALL HYPE ITS TO GET YOUR MIND OF THE ECONOMY AND THE GOV WANTS YOU TO STAY IN THE USA AND SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE.. I SAY GO .. HAVE FUN LEAVE THE FLU BEHIND IN THE STATES. I

mexico is fine, as long as your not a dubass in a really touristy place then you'll be alright. i go to tijuana all the time and never have any problem and im about to mexico city for 2 months and im not worried at all. the flu isnt really that big of a deal down there anyways, its mostly uneducated poor people getting really sick

IT IS NOT OKAY. Swine Flu is EVERYWHERE in Mexico. I live near New York City and all the swine flu cases stem from Mexico and in particular, Cancun. DO NOT GO until this whole thing is over.

middleguy777
I would have to say no, not so much the swine flu as the Drug Cartels, there are over 6,000 deaths related to this drug violence.

The borders aren't closed because US authorities aren't as narrow minded and stupid as to be influenced by the collective hysteria and they KNOW that things aren't as bad as the media is making them seem. "Travelbug" has a very good point: you are at risk EVERYWHERE, do you know that as of today there are MORE CASES of swine flu confirmed in USA than in Mexico??? Sorry but you're not safe in USA either.... maybe we should close OUR border and keep americans out of our country so THEY don't come and infect us...??? The WHO has already said that closing the borders at this point is nonsense. Nothing is going to be solved. So it's up to you if you want to come or not, nothing we say or do will change your perception but you should really consider whether believing all you hear/see is OK or not.

neasa
yeah it's perfectly fine if you want to catch the swine flu. have fun there.
