Is it possible for my grandma to get her dialysis treatment while vacationing in Cabo?

Who can we talk to about this information so we can get her set-up??!!

Absolutely. Talk to her facility manager about finding dialysis centers nearby. In Mexico all dialysis is paid for upfront, even for Mexicans. It is hard to say how much it will cost, but her insurance might be willing to reimburse her if you contact them about it BEFORE her vacation. Keep in mind that the facility where she will be going may want a thorough medical background, even a chest x-ray and EKG. Also, nothing against Mexico, but the dialysis facility will not likely be as nice as where your mother dialyzes now. They will likely do things a little different. They won't be big things, they just won't do the same little things that your grandma might be used to with her regular facility.

Lived in Cabo for years. Over Amerimed, I'd recommend Hospital Especialidades. I had major surgery here and was in excellent care. There were very valid reasons I didn't go to Amerimed and still wouldn't. Because it has an 'American' name doesn't make it American standard.

If you pay your bill at the hospital, whichever you choose, most insurance carriers should reimburse you once you return home.

I am pretty sure the closest hospital for dialysis is La Paz about 90 minutes from Cabo...but you might want to call ahead to find out for sure. If you need a doctor's e-mail address...either look at the websites or e-mail me at adrinablue@yahoo.com and I'll look them up for you.

In Cabo San Lucas, you can contact Amerimed, it is like a US hospital, but I don't know if your grandma insurance work with them.

since your grandma is already being treated here, i would say not to take her.. it's better to be safe than sorry..

It might be, but it would cost money(as in cash or credit card), and after seeing the Mexican medical system in action, I don't recommend it. If yout grandmother needs medical treatment like that on a regular basis, she needs to stay in the US wherethe treatment is available.

Foreign countries don't recognize our insurance system. I'm sure there is a facility, but she'll have to pay cash up front for her dialysis which will be extremely expensive.
