As long as you are smart, and stay with your friends you should be fine, and not forget that even tho you have left the US by a few miles you are still in another country.

Be Prepared for Tijuana
A few simple preparations will make your Tijuana trip easier:
Take cash: You'll get better prices. U. S. dollars are fine, but travelers checks are not widely accepted in Tijuana. Use ATMs only for emergencies; they'll give pesos and may incur foreign transaction fees.

Bring documentation: U. S. citizens can visit Mexico for 72 hours or less without visas. Rules say to bring a passport or notarized copy of your birth certificate and a photo ID, but often, a U. S. driver's license is enough. Permanent Residents should bring their green cards. Citizens of other countries need valid passports and a valid I-94, multi-entry visa or visa waiver.

Know how you're going to get around Tijuana: Read our Tijuana transportation guide and plan ahead.

Time your trip: It can take over three hours to get back into the U. S. from Tijuana on Saturday evening. Leave by mid-afternoon, or go on a less-busy day.

Beggars. There are many in Tijuna, some children. Baja Mexico's tourism department says giving them money won't help the problem and suggests you contribute to a charity that helps needy people instead.

Beware of young girls selling flowers. They may be pickpockets who will try to distract you with their wares while lifting your wallet.

Say no. Tijuana shopkeepers want your attention, and they all have a way of getting it. Some resort to stereotypes (serape and sombrero), others to politeness ("just let me show you something") and yet others to humor: "Give me a chance to rip you off." A firm "no" works with all but the most persistent.

Wear comfortable walking shoes. Walking is the best way to see Tijuana.

Leave expensive jewelry at home or make it inconspicuous. You may get better prices from Tijuana shopkeepers if they think you don't have much money, and there's no point in inviting thieves.

its just as safe as most US cities.

one time i was in TJ and i was worried about all the crime there. when i was on my way home in the US i got off the 5 freeway and saw a lot of police with guns drawn. i just thought i can get shot here just as easily as in TJ.

TJ is fun, but its an ugly city just like mexico city. go further south in mexico. there is less beggers in the south, less big city problems, more nice people.

experience TJ!!!

If you are going for the day it should be safe. Have you visited other parts of Mexico? If so, I would think that you will not enjoy Tijuana! Skip it and go further south to the beach. I wish I would have!

Oh my god! It's safe! Obviously, like in ANY big city, you have to be careful but just because it's Tijuana doesn't mean that you have to be all freaked out. I used to live there. It's perfectly fine. Just treat it as if you were going to L.A. or New York! I get tired of people treating it like it's this crappy place and you need to have body guards or something to go anywhere. Don't believe the beasteality thing or crap like that. Go and find out for yourself. You don't have to be scared.

older than 35.. well. they will try to sell u stuff... and well.. yeah u can bargain something....

my best advice.. go in the morning... and well.. TJ is safe... on the morning... night.. is okey but too much bribes

As long as you ladies equip yourselves like Rambo, you should be relatively safe! They have only killed 500 ladies the last year or so. You run like a 1 to 10 chance something will happen. Ignore everyone that approaches, don't count or flaunt your money. Consider getting an escorted day trip. May (American)reputable companies have these day trips to TJ.

it should be it all depends what you are all planning to do when you get there and whether you guys hang together or not - the age of the persons in the group will have a lot to do with it too. Just have a plan, a contingency plan, if you separate by accident and some firm rules about designated drivers and such, no big flashing of cash you know the same thing as if you went out in a group in your neighborhood for a night out

Absolutely. It's safe, but some parts can be unsavory---the smell, many many poor people begging, and the vendors. Otherwise, a great place to visit. Hangout on the revolucion---the main drag there. They have some great shopping and restaurants. Don't forget to bargain and haggle!!! It's probably safe to assume that you will not drive in? Be careful if you do drive, I noticed that the cops like to pick on Americans who drive there. Otherwise, if you want to see more of the city, go to one of the taxi stands and tell the guy what you are looking for---for example, if you want to go off the beaten path and go to a great restaurant, they are the mnost knowledgeable. Again, just use common sense like you would anywhere else. PErsonally, we felt very safe there.

Tijuana is a great shopping place, as safe as any big city in the world. Maybe the knock-off hand bag capitol of the world, Prada, Vuitton, Dooney/Burke. Good prices. If girl day trippers behave like ladies, there would be no problem.Rosarito Beach is worth the extra drive south for clubs and seafood restaurants, lots of young vacationers. Bien Viaje and have fun.

stefanico28
Yeah, TJ is safe for you to go down. So many people cross over on a daily basis (You wont be a fish out of water). Just remember to keep those $20 bills handy in case a cop stops you (just kidding).

dude.

When I was 11 my parents took me and my brother along with another family. It was pretty creepy and dirty but we survived. I think you just have to stay on the main road. It gets really dodgy after dark but it is fun to go and bargin for cheep trinkets.

There is no problem as long as you are being careful.
It is no different than going to Cleveland or Detroit. You need to be aware of your surroundings and just be careful.
