Hey buddy, it's just like here in the states. Its safe in some places and not in others. Crime is everywhere and so are nice towns. So the answer is yes and no. |

Depending on where you go, it can be safe, however, that does not mean that you should ever let your guard down. The vendors who walk selling goods will be very bold and solicit you even while you are dining. I learned from a bartender that a woman should always have her purse next to her and safe as they sometimes use small children to pick pocket while they are distracting you. It's always a good idea as well to not wear your best jewelry, and never "show" your cash in public |

Mexico is a pretty large country to travel. Mexico's presidential crises and drug wars have put it up to the forefront of nationwide problems. Its safe in some of the important citite like Acuapulco, Mexico City or Cancun. It may take time before Mexico can uplift its downside image from a successfully economic superpower in Latin America.
But, this year in 2007, Miss Universe 2007 is in Mexico City. I hope its safe for the contestants! But, for you it should not be a problem as its still improving day by day. |

I'm Mexican... I can tell you, Puebla is one of the safest places. Mexico in general is safe. There are some places as dangerous as Bronx in the USA.
Don't go to the north of the country (you can go to Baja California Sur) because they have problems with drugs sellers, they have even fought. And don´t go to Chiapas or Tabasco, they are like hooligans because they don't like the government.
You can go to the beaches, there's a lot of security because we want to be well-seen by tourists.
Wherever you go be confident, and act as if you know Mexico as your hand. Burglars use to abuse from people who doesn't know the place.
Also, carry money in your shoes or boxers, that way, they won't do anything (that if you go to the dangerous places).
Come on... Most of eople try to take care from tourists, they have the privilege... and thy do it more if you speak in English because most of them love more a foreign people than their own country. |

Whenever I go to Mexico I use the same precautions I use when I am out and about here in my hometown. I make sure that my in-laws know where I am. I watch my back just as I do when I am here. You hear things that happen in New York too, doesn't mean it is particularily dangerous either, just that you have to be aware of your souroundings. I love Mexico and can't wait to go back. Just use the same precautions as you would when you are out and about in any other place whether that be in your home town or the next state over. |
