Is it safe to drive a Ferrari from Ottawa, Canada to Puerto Vallarta? |
I'll be leaving next year - May 2010 - in a Ferrari Testarossa from Ottawa, Canada to Puerto Vallarta and possibly Guadalajara and Mexico City. Will I encounter any hazards along the way such as rogue police that will harrass me and require bribes, bandits, loco drivers, drug lords, etc.? Thanks. Kent. |

Besides the fact that you're driving a Ferrari through Mexico, I think the best piece of advice would be to look into what border town you're coming through. Ciudad Juarez is dangerous, I'd say your best bet would be through Brownsville to Matamoros. The Gulf side of northern Mexico is the safest, and most convenient from Ottawa. Your car will stick out like a sore thumb to police, and you may encounter some problems. Pay them whatever they want. (They are poor, so their demands shouldn't be that big.) |

It'll be like a Sunday drive through the country--no country for old men, that is. If Vegas was giving odds, I'd say the 50/50 for the spot on the route you will die is 10 miles across the Mexican border.
You better stay home and just watch Desparado or Once upon a time in Mexico, amigo. |

Decent question but obvious answer. You see, driving threw mexico in a ferrari is like wearing a suit made of mailable gold in the middle of the projects with a giant billboard over your head that (in neon letters) says shoot me, get rich instantly im have LOTS of money!
If i were to place a bet on you for surviving the first 30 minutes into the boarder.(and said you would die) I wouldn't make any money, nobody would be dumb enough to bet against me.

I would say be very carefull and would not reccomend driving a ferrari which in mexico is like holding a billboard saying hey mess with me. Kidnappings and Drug Wars are at an all time high right now, so if someone sees you driving a ferrari they are going to assume you have alot of money and therefore they could make a profit. Just be carefull and consider a different form of transportation |
