Its safe. Stick to the toll roads and you will be fine. Make sure you buy Mexican car insurance at the border. |

Yes, it is safe. It is a long, challenging drive. you did not say WHERE in Ontario, so I just picked a spot. It is about 44 hrs drive time. See map and info below...I always add a few hrs as map services are always a bit optimistic. Also, on trips this long, the unexpected always happens. You will need a Guia Roji...the Mexican road atlas...can order one from Amazon.com. NEVER drive at nite in Mexico due to animals on the road and poor road conditions in places. When you have a choice, ALWAYS take the toll roads. See sites below for car permit info, driving in Mexico info, My favorite Mexican car ins. agent. wow.. that's a long drive...
a friend drove from the mexican border to chicago and it took him 26 hours driving plus a stop to go to sleep and rest.
from the border to mexico city is about 24 hours more, plust you'll have to stop to sleep...
so it will probably take you 3-4 days depending where you go.
but its safe.. I've drove to a lot of part in MExico and is beautifull... toll roads are actually WAY better than roads in the US, more modern, and the views are fantastic..

You will have more problems driving through the states than most of Mexico. When I was in Manzanillo last year I talked with a couple from Nova Scotia and they drive down every year and stay for just over a month. I can;t remember how long it took them. |
