Some areas along the border are not particularly safe. If you are buying, using or selling drugs it is not safe. Otherwise Mexico is as safe as any area of comparable size in the US.

I depends to what part you go to, I will tell you this, the couple of times that we have gone to mexico people have always tried to rip us off, I guess cuz they think people over here are rich and they have alot of money, Don't wear too much jewelry when you go out into the streets, and always get out of your car when u stop to pump gas if you rent one while you are there because u have to make sure you get what you payed for, I'm Mexican American and its sad to me what the people over there try to do to their own people, I mean not everyone is like that but my grandma says that that for what one person does everybody pays, I say just don't trust anybody and don't take more than what you need.

I've lived in many parts of the world. I have been ripped off in USA, and in Mexico. But I just love Mexico, every day I wake up and say,"another wonderful day", the climate is fabulous. I like the food and the people. But even though you may really like them be careful because they certainly seem to think all the foreigners are rich and can replace anything 'they' take. It is called "taking" not "stealing".
I have been hurt each time when a cleaning person takes small things that I do not notice until too late. Then I have to discuss, hope they will replace, or return it, and if not I do not employ them. When you fire them they can sue you, and they do! you end up paying a severance charge, even if they have transgressed. Then I start a new woman to clean, and it all starts over again. The thing is I often really like the cleaning woman, and it hurts me when I know they have stolen from me.

I think it is it depends what part u go to and if ur involved in the drug stuff.

Depends on the place and your attitude, but if you're so fearful then you'd probably better not come. We don't need more people acting like chickens and saying bad things about Mexico. Why would you want to go to a place that makes you feel scared and unsafe anyway? Stay in your country buddy!

The good place you could gop to is Baja California, pretty calm right now, not much violence.

I think the olny dangerous place would be the ones along the border like Tijuana.

I doubt it and I wouldn't go even if someone offered me an all expenses paid trip.

Why take a chance when there are many more places to go where you would be safer?

No, and it will not be safe for many years my friend.
I know some guy who went there and he ended up waking up in a tub of ice and he came back with one kidney just last week.
