It was once part of spain which controlled mexico but they got independence and then they owned it. then the u.s. attacked mexico in the mexican war and demanded land. they got california, arizona, new mexico, and texas. u.s. wanted the gulf of california but mexico but mexico wouldnt give it up. this happened way before world war 1. |
