Estados Unidos Mexicanos.
It translates to United Mexican States, they have 31 states.
So yes you're right, United States of Mexico is pretty much the same thing. |

According to all of the Mexican coins I've seen, the answer is yes. 'Estados Unidos Mexicanos'. |

I would say that you're a lot closer than most of the people who seem to think they know everything. As someone else pointed out, the full name is Estados Unidos Mexicanos. According to the CIA Factbook, this translates to United Mexian States. I'm no expert in Spanish, but I think it would have to be Estados Unidos de Mexico to be literally translated to United States of Mexico. |

The people who said yes are correct. i am an american living in mexico. i have in front of me my FM3 visa...and it says "Estados Unidos Mexicanos," |

Everyone who answered no is incorrect. They should all go back to school, although it did not seem to help the first time. United Mexican States is absolutely correct. |

The United Mexican States. Los Estados Unidos Mexicanos.
To the person who said there are two official names, you are mistaken. There is only one official name. There was a move in congress a few years back to change the name to La República Mexicana, but the official name remains: los Estados Unidos Mexicanos.
I live in the most populous of the 31 states, el Estado de México |

I don't understand why there are answers "screaming" it is not.
The official name of MY country is:
"Estados Unidos Mexicanos", wich translates to "United Mexican States, "Mexican United States" or "United States of Mexico". I think the first translation is better, and the considered "international translation"
You can see the name in any official paper: passports, embassies, currency. Every mexican coin has the Escudo Nacional ("national shield"?) with the name. |

it is sooooo funny how many people said no to this. YES, this is the official name...or the way you translate it in english. United States of Mexico (i assume your "stated" was a typo?) |

Mexico's REAL name is "Estados Unidos Mexicanos", which would translate into "Mexican United States" (not United States of Mexico), but it was close enough. It is also called the "Mexican Republic", but it used in a bit less formal manner. Then you have "Mexico", which is the common name. |

Up until a couple of years ago the real name of Mexico was the United States of Mexico. If you look at a map of Mexico you'll see that the country is made up of states, exactly like the US. Recently, (two or three years ago) the name was officially changed to Mexico. |

The only two official names of "Mexico" are:
Los Estados Unidos Mexicanos (The United Mexican States)
La República Mexicana (The Mexican Republic). |
