Is there a region of Mexico where the people are fairer-skinned?

I'm wondering what region, if any, of Mexico is it where the people tend to have lighter skin and hair?

I live in an area with many Mexicans and occasionally I will see one who has light skin and has light brown/blondish hair.

Now, of course, I realize that the hair could be artificially lightened and that could explain some of what I see. It does not, however, explain the lighter skin I see in combo with the lighter hair.

So, is what I see just a random thing among the population (just as all other races have differences in skin color/hair) or is there an actual region where this "lightness" is prevalent?

Any helpful answers appreciated! Thanks!

Mexicans are a mix of European Spaniards and The indiginous people like the Yaqui Indians. There is no set region where there are more fairskinned people than others, except maybe major cities.

Some European bloodlines have remained less mixed with the native population and visa versa.

The northern states, which you find a lot of them are tall, white skin, blond and blue eyes.

ok, i am going to speak in GENERAL terms, and steriotypes....

most mexicans are "mestizo," they are a mix between spaniards (who are basically white in color) and native indians (who are steriotypically stalky, short, and dark skinned. however mayans were known for being taller and lighter) darker skinned mexicans have more of a native influence, ligher skinned have more of a spaniard influence.

in addition, although mexico is "homogenious" in it's ethnicity (for the most part) they still have a certain type of racism. darker skinned mexicans tend to have less money, and are not given as many opportunities. they tend to work blue collar type jobs, or work on a ranch.

based on this, it shouldn't be a surprise that most mexicans who come to the US are darker in skin tone because this is the group that tends to "need" to come here.

you are going to find darker skinned mexicans in the northern cities (because historically these areas have more ranches, a job that is common among darker skinned, more native peoples) and in larger more metropolitan citites such as DF, Guadalajara, etc... you will see ligher skinned mexicans because there are better jobs in these cities, and more money. and ligher skinned mexicans have both those qualities in common.

basically the rules is...the richer the area, the ligher the skin. central mexico is where you will find the lighter skinned mexicans. northern mexico will have darker skin colors, and the penninsula will have the most "native" peoples.

the reason you don't see many is like i said, mexico is a little "racist" or "classist" and ligher skinned mexicans do not "need" the US for money or opportunity, they already have it.

before anyone goes around accusing me...i KNOW i'm steriotyping, but it's really the only way to explain.

I live in the state of Veracruz. there are towns here that were settled by French and German immigrants years ago, and ther are many blond-haired, blue-eyed people.

There are some cities and towns in the state of Jalisco and Michoacan that complies with your question, these people are descendant from french, italian and countries alike.

Some cities are Los Altos, Xalostoltitlan, La Nueva Italia. The first 2 are in Jalisco, the latter in Michoacan.

Also, there are mexicans like myself who are descendant from spanish and who have light skin, caucasian you could say!!

The main explanation for this is that Mexico was a Spanish colony and also because of the influx of european and spanish immigrants throughout the XX century (Mexico received thousands of refugees from the Spanish civil war). From the total Mexican population , 30% are of indigenous origin, 60% are mestizo (indigenous mixed with spanish) and the remaining 10% are mostly white, most of them of spanish ascendant but there are also small groups of Irish (like ex-president Vicente Fox), German, British and French. According to some, in the northern state of Coahuila up to 35% of the population is white. It's very common to find more white people in the northern states such as Sonora, Sinaloa and Durango. An explanation for that could be because the original population of indigenous people in this places were much smaller than in the southern and central states when the spanish arrived.

In my case i look european because my parents (both mother and father) have Spanish and German ascendant, for example my grand-grand father came from Catalunya in the late 1800's

Hope this helps!

Mexico City.
I went to Mexico for the first time in 2004 and the first city I went to was Mexico City. I did go as a tourist, but I did have relatives living in the City and we went everywhere, parks, downtown, the mountains, the mall, and I swear i was so ignorant and I said "there are a lot of tourists here." And I said "man, they know Spanish very well, better than me." and I found out they are Mexicans, not tourists, they looked white, and then there I was educated about how that came to be.
