there is crime as it would be expected for any large city. but compared to chicago, LA, new york or some other cities, it isnt that bad. the crime is overrated im mexican and used to live on mexico city, and for the 15 years that i lived there i was never in a dangerous situation caused by crime

Not really, I talk to you from Mexico and things are as cool as always. Sure there are drug cartels but they don't mess with civilians. Nothing will happen to you if you use your common sense, if you plan to get drunk in a bar in the middle of no where and walk around at 2am with the camera hanging on you neck then somethiong might happen to you... as much as it would happen in Chicago or NY. They totally exaggerate, the media is trying to brainwash you.

American news exaggerates. I've been to Mexico City dozens of times and nothing bad has ever happened to me. In all the time I have spent there I've even seen a crime.

No no violence: if you do not count: 50 to 60 carjackings at gunpoint a day, 2 to 3 armed robberies and killings of tourists coming out of the airport A WEEK, 5 to 6 REPORTED kidnappings a week, and 5 to 6 gang killings of police personnel a week. All this is poo pooed by the national media not to harm the the tourist trade. Stay away from Mexico City : it is worse than you can imagine.

absolutely no violence whatsoever.

the only people who argue in the street are fat american tourists.

stop being brainwashed by the media/government, they're desperate to "win the war on drugs" and will do ANYTHING to pressure us (including hurting our tourism industry).

Well, Mexico City has always had high violence. It's been dubbed the "Kidnapping Capital of the World" and also the most polluted city in the world. The air quality is horrible. There's lots of pickpocketing, muggings, kidnappings and stabbings. I'd never recommend going there. The recent events with the Mexican drug cartels even made things worst than they have already been in Mexico City and the rest of Mexico. I don't ever recommend going to Mexico City.
