Is there things about Mexico I should know before going there? |
I'm not going till 2010, and I am going with a friend and 2 adults.
I will be 17 then. I already know not to drink the water, and to not go alone, but like I said, I'm going with a friend and 2 adults. |

Yes, I've been about a dozen times to different locals.
First, don't drink the tap water
Second, be polite and avoid areas that aren't popular or well-lit
Third, be cautious with you belongings and money
Fourth, don't wear expensive jewelry
Fifth, take in the local culture by riding the bus and eating at local foodstands
Six, have fun - it's a vacation but be aware laws are very different and what could land you in troube in the states may be overlooked, but what is ok in the states could get you in big trouble |

Don't wear expensive jewelley, you and the adults.
Don't get drunk and crawl into dark alleys.
Don't go out alone at night;
Don't leave your purse/camera on the beach when you go into the water.
Don't do anything illegal. Your vacation may last longer than you thought.
I agree not to drink tap water, but don't get overly concerned about eating salads, mixed drinks if you eat in tourist area restaurants.
Stay hydrated - drink plenty of bottle or purified water. Use sunscreen.
We eat where the locals eat - the best food at best prices!
Above all, enjoy your time there! |

First I want t say that I love Mexico. It is filled with many wonderful people and adventures to have, but there are many things to know and too many to list... since you are going with adults, and as long as they have been before, do as they reccomend. Do not trust strangers....be careful at all times, especially at night. Do not venture off alone...please. ( there are many there who look for tourists to injure in some way). there are library books with all sorts of info. check the ones that talk about the real Mexico, not resort travel. Pactice your Spanish...you'll have a much better time if you at least know some basics. |

Learn to know when they are going to rip you off. They always take advantage of american people (im not being racist, Im mexican myself) Learn how to drive carefully because they are crazy, learn about sunscreen and know the basic spanish. I would know, Ive been going to rockypoint my whole life. NO, dont drink the water lol also, learn how to count the money too, that helps. |
