Caring girl.

Is this true what my Dads girlfriend has told me about Mexico?

My Dads girlfriend went to Mexico when she was 21 which is 37 years ago. She was staying in a small hotel with her sister. She asked one of the staff at the hotel if there was a restaurant where she could eat at one night. The reply was that it was not safe for her and her sister to go out at night with her sister as they where two women on their own, and that they could get a meal at the hotel. Anyway the two of them ignored this advice and went out for a meal anyway, and got ill from the water.

They them later found out that they where lucky to have survived and not have got shot as allot of women get shot in Mexico.

To me it sounds a little far fetched to be true.
Additional Details
The place where they where staying was very near Mexico City.

Guys!! Am not Mexican, but I feel sad when people talk about "deadly Corruption" about other countries! For me, each country is full of illegal activities.

Anyways, from my point of view, 2 women late night are unsafe in any country..let it be USA, Mexico or England.

So even if u say "Mexico City" or New York or Vatican city.. any woman can be unsafe late night.

Woman don't get shot in Mexico out of the blue, this are all stereotypes that people have about the country, as in any big city you need to be careful in certain areas of the city but that's anywhere in the world, besides I don't think you can compare an incident that happened 37 years ago with the current environment

Alot has changed in 37 years. I just arrived from Mexico and from my experiences, it is safe for women to walk alone. The only thing i encountered was alot of stares since i had lighter skin but everyone i encountered was nice.

Alex
What the staff said was true, but not because they could get shot, allot of women do not get shot in mexico but allot of women do get robed, and so do men, specially at night so if you go do be careful.
Besides that mexico city is a realy beutiful place.

Like some one said before any women late night anywhere in the world is unsafe, now Mexico City has over 23 million people living in the city not counting vicinities, now the chances to get shot during the night are 1 in 23 million, so your chances are very small. Now Mexico City if you google for the most dangerous cities in the world Mexico City is not on the top 10 or even top 20 there are more cities in US that appear in such a list before Mexico City. I'm not saying that it is the safest place but is not like a lot people think. You can not compare 37 years ago and now.

Now about the water, 22.5 Million people in Mexico City drink water and cook with same water from the sink, and they do not get sick, the only water that you can not drink is the one from the parks, the water they use for sprinkles. Now if you are not use to Mexican food or any food in Mexico you may get sick, since all the vegetables, meet, chicken, milk and other are real fresh and some times your stomach do not tolerate this type of food since most of the food in the US is frozen or is being in refrigerators for long period of time to conserve when the food travel such a long distances.

I always say the best thing to do so no one tells me how things are, what is good and what is not, I go to places and learn my ways, I like to travel a lot an I have learned that you need to be there to see with your eyes and taste everything so you get your ideas and see what is the best for you, we are all different and we all see things from different perspectives.

So go down to Mexico and see how beautiful country Mexico is and see what Mexico can offer you, Mexico has a lot more than any other country in America. Don't believe everything learn for your self.

Best

I wouldn't say its true though the truth about there water is true if you go to mexico make sure you take along bottled water and drink bottled water and we are used to having purified and filtered water and its not the same there. You can get amoebic dysentery from the water there.

It wasent true up until the Mexico City part.

You must be careful if you are a woman in Mexico City. And some places dont make a big deal of serving good water.

The laws in Mexico are very different than they are here in the U.S., and there is widespread corruption. You have no Constitutional protections there, and, if they decide to, they can arrest you on made-up charges and hold you for a long time. They arrest people sometimes and hold them until relatives send large amounts of money.
