It's next to impossible for foreigners to go to Mexico or CancĂșn for that matter for work. The Mexican government will not hire foreigners to do a job if they feel it is a job a Mexican can do. All that set aside you can't just show up and work. You would have to have an FM3 and employment visa before even considering it. The cost of living in CancĂșn compared to what you would make is ridiculous. You would be working 12-16 hour days for $10-$20 a day six days a week. You wouldn't be able to survive. Just think if it was that easy and good wouldn't everybody be moving to beautiful CancĂșn to work and play???
Sorry, but it's just not that easy. Less than 1% of people that try to move there and work are successful in doing so. Sorry, but you are probably stuck where you are at.

You will not be able first af all to find a job here..........Mexico has some of the highest unemployment in the world. Second is your FM3 card. Impossible to get.
Third is $. You would not be able to live on what they pay here.
Listen to King of Cancun as he is shooting it straight.
Here is a link for you to check out for yourself.....

Ive seen many gringos come to Acapulco with hope of living the good life. Ive never seen one past about 2 months and usually they are looking for some cash to return home.

marci knows best
To live in Mexico for more than 6 months, you need an FM-3. You must be able to document monthly of $1200 -1500 depending on the area in Mexico. To work legally you will need a work permit. You may be able to find part time jobs depending on your skill set, but remember that competition is high for the kind of jobs that can be held by gringos.

People move to Cancun and work there all the time. Yes, there are rules but it IS possible. I know many people from all over the world that live, work and have businesses in Cancun. Right now, 6 thousand Americans, 700 British live in cancun and the area. Living and working everyday. Don't let anyone fool you. Get your piece of the pie.

To begin with, you can't work without a work permit and they are hard to get. You can't live in well developed Mexican cities on Social Security payments, utilities are out of sight. Look into tutoring, personal assistant, home care for the disabled... do some serious investigating before you go. Also, work on your Spanish language skills. Good luck.

I lived in Cancun for 6 months when I was 19 and worked the first month and was fine for the rest of the time. I always found little jobs here or there for the day or the week. It's more about meeting the right people once you get there. If you get an apartment downtown or share with other people it is quite cheap compared to in the hotel zone. depending on how long you want to go for, bring a couple thousand dolalrs down if you can, and that will last you A LONG TIME!
