Low Budget in Cancun?

My husband and I are going in TWO weeks! We too are on a low budget. We are taking about four hundred and thirty dollars and we are doing four things.
1. Party Hopper 52.00 a person
2. Isla Mujeres cruise 47.00 a person
3. ATV and Speed boats 70.00 a person
4. Parasailing 45.00 a person.
However we are going to an all inclusive hotel so we didn't need much money for tips and shiz.

Im going to cancun in about 3 weeks One thing I would recommened thats inexpensive would be to eat at local spots which have really good food at very good prices
Stay clear from the stuff we have here in the states its too expensive. Last time I went I had lunch at Market 28 where you could find all the tourist souvenirs you might need & also has a good mexican food spot I ate like a King had a Mariachi band play 3 tunes and also bought 2 roses for my lady all for 30 bucks the food alone was less than 20 bucks for both of us. Another thing you could do is take a tour which are fun check TripAdvisor.com to get opinions from people who have already taken them so you could get a better idea on prices and what the tour entails.

If you already have a hotel that will dictate much of what you can do in terms of having fun on a budget. In the first place the only beaches worth going to are the north beach of Isla Mujeres and Play del Carmen south. I would not go to Mujeres just for the beach but to see the island and end the day on the beach is cool. You can travel all over in the Yucatan Peninsula by first class bus and they are a hundred times better than the states. I would get one room in downtown Cancun for one or two days and take the bus to the beach in the hotel zone. Cheap and great beach. Take the bus to Playa and spend a couple of nights and then on down to Tulum. If you are really adventuras you should take the bus to Valladolid. Built in 1546 the town is way cool and you can take day trips to Ek Balam, Coba and Chichen Itza for very little money. Chichen is over done, my opinion, not even classical Maya. But, that is the scoop. A great hotel in Valladolid is 25 dollars in the Hotel Valladolid in front of the bus station. AC, cable tv, everything. Good luck!!! And good traveling!!

Yeah...stay at a hostel in the city outside of the hotel zone. Try hostel quetzal. 15 bucks a night in the dorm, 35 for a private room.
What to do there? Believe me, you will not run out of things to occupy your time.

Stay in Playa Del Carmen. Many of the hotels like Fiesta Banana charge around $55/nite at that time (that's what I'm paying anyways). I'm also on a budget. I plan to take mass transportation whenever possible. Get to know the bus system and prices. Convert dollars to pesos and use the Riviera Bus to go from the airport to Playa for the equivalent of $6.50US. Fiesta Banana supposedly can arrange local tours like Chichen Itza and Xcaret for cheaper than other places. Food, lodging, and souvenirs are all cheaper in Playa compared with Cancun. It's also more laid back and you have easy access to the $11 ferry to Cozumel Island (awesome snorkeling).
