If you think Tijuana and Juarez are all that Mexico has to offer you are wrong. Mexico is a highly civilized country with many historical sites which will give you insight to the New World development. People are friendly, food is great, lack of proper Spanish isn't a draw back. Go, see have fun. |

I agree with Salsera and Ipaganus. Go and have fun, take precautions with the water and food, don't drink too much.
I hope you work on your English as well as your Spanish. |

Don't listen to riteon she's too scared and busy listening to right wing radio to leave her house. and I doubt she/he has ever left her house long enough to have visited Mexico.
As for your question. Mexico can be a great place to visit providing you take some precautions. Do your homework, ask around, and be a little more specific as to what your interested in doing. Mexico is a big country so you should let people know what region of Mexico you'd like to visit. Just use the same common sense you'd use when visiting any of our big cities like L.A., Chicago, New York, etc...
You should be able to find forums (in English) throughout the web dedicated to a specific city/area in Mexico. I personally love to travel throughout Baja, and yes Tijuana can be a bit too much for many people (not me). But Tijuana is a only a small part of a very big peninsula not to mention an entire country. Here's a link to a forum dedicated to Baja California. Good luck and stay safe.

Go to the Dept. of State web site. Take any precautions you would take in any big city--leave the Rolex and other flashy jewelry at home, don't carry around extra credit cards or lots of cash, and be aware of your surroundings. Late at night, take a cab to get home. Other than that, enjoy!
If you're going to college, look into a study abroad program. You may have the opportunity to live with a Mexican family. Financial aid may cover it, and you will get credits towards graduation. |

If you have never been there, I think you might be in for a real awakening. Think you may be real glad to get back on American soil. Unless you can stand begging from little kids constantly, seeing the filth and poverty all around, its a whole new world. I have been in Tijuana and Juarez and its horrible.
I have been told if you go to the vacation hot spots its nice there but if you venture a few blocks away from the tourist spots its down right dangerous.
Why do you think millions are coming over here? |
