I'm betting that your banknotes have a portrait of Sor Juana de Asbaje on them. If so, they are the old type. Effective 1 January 1993, Mexico remonetized and 1000 old pesos became 1 new peso. If your banknotes have the S.A. in the bank title, then they are dated before 1982, which means they have a bit more value to collectors than the later dates. They dropped the 'S.A.' in 1982 when Mexico nationalized the banking industry.
There is an even earlier type 1000 peso banknote that has a portrait of Cuautemoc on them. Still no face value, but at least $2 each as a collectible.
The current 1000 peso banknotes have a portrait of Hidalgo on them.

NO THEY ARE WORTH NOTHING AT ALL!

Just over 10 years ago, after years of wild inflation, the Mexican government issued the "New Peso" which was equivalent to 1000 "old" Pesos. The 1000 Peso notes you have would nowadays be worth exactly one Peso coin (about 10 cents US) each.

EXCEPT that the government imposed a two year time limit for cashing in the "old" Peso for "New Pesos," after that time limit was up, the "old" Peso was no longer valid currency, and the name "New Peso" was changed to simply "Peso" so I'm afraid all your bills are useful only for monopoly.

(You COULD try to find someone REALLY stupid.... about 6-7 years ago someone walked into a bank in Vancouver, Canada and asked to change a 2000 peso note. The teller checked the exchange rate and handed over the equivalent of about $200 US to the happy customer, only later to discover that the actual value of the old note was 20 cents!)

Go to

http://www.banxico.org.mx/billetesymonedas/didactico/billetes_FabCaractHis/billFabricActual/bill_fabricacion_actual.html

If bills you have seems like any of the "TIPO C", "TIPO D" or "TIPO D1" bills are useable, if they look like any other bills they are not useable anymore.

No they are worthless we have a new currency now.

In 2 years of living here I have never seen a $1000 peso bill. If they were current they would be worth a little less than $100us each so I doubt you would find that kind of money lying around

Go to your local bank. You might need to go to the main one they do foreign exchange and they can tell you.
