The ATM accept Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, Visa Electron, Red, Dinners Club. So if your debit card has this logos then you will be ok.

Yes, in fact depending on where you are going you may even find a Scotiabank. They actually have many branches in Mexico.

The link below is to their locations in Cancun, if you scroll down you will see their locations in PDC. But they are all over Mexico if you happen to be going to other parts. And again, even if none of these are handy you can use your ATM card in Mexican banks no problem. As for fees, I used my CIBC card at the Banamex and it cost me $3.00 - I don't remember being charged anything by Banamex, but I know CIBC charged me the $3.00. Personally, I think it's worth it for the convenience of not having to try to find a place that's going to cash a travellers cheque (which most banks charge you to issue them anyway) and also the convenience of having local currency.

ATM's almost everywhere love bank cards from almost everywhere else.... the real question is --- how much will it cost you?

Before you leave home (I'm assuming you live in Canada), check with your local bank (if you have knowledgeable personnel) or go on the bank's website to check out exactly what the transaction costs will be and if there are any other fees associated with using your card at a Mexican ATM.

THEN -- go online and check out what the fees might be at the Mexican ATM you might be using.

Yes, you will most likely incur extra fees on both sides of the border -- one, for using your card outside your home country and two, for using your "foreign" card at another bank's ATM. You will also want to check out how they calculate the exchange rate.

That said -- depending upon where you are going in Mexico, you may find that your local Canadian bank DOES have branches. For instance, Scotiabank is here in my city in Torreon. To find what banks are in the cities to which you are traveling, you can check the article below, which has links to some of the major banks in Mexico.

Finally, one more caution. Because of the large amount of bankcard fraud worldwide, many banks will place a "stop" on your card if they see it used in a country other than the one in which you reside. It is smart to notify your bank BEFORE you travel that you will be using your card in a foreign country and the dates between which it will be used. Again, either your local banker or an online help desk can assist you in doing this.

Hope this helps! A little work beforehand will make the financial aspects of your trip much less worrisome.

Certainly. Most -if not all, by now- ATMs are part of the Visa, Electron, Cirrus, etc network.
Unlike some countries, like Japan for instance, ATMs are open 24 hours and they are conveniently located throughout the country in hotels, banks, supermarkets, department stores, bus stations, etc.
You can even find them in smaller towns wherever a bank is located. Even if the bank itself is closed, you can access the ATMs. And you can choose the English mode as well.

Yes at least in the big cities. Otherwise, ask at the bank. Mexican ATMs are notorious for eating bank cards,,,been there.
