Mexico City - What is it like as compared to Tokyo?

I've been living most of my life in Tokyo, and I'm so interested in going to Mexico.

Mexico City is totally different from Tokyo, right?
People are much much more friendly there and a little bit dangerous, I heard.

I can't wait going there > <
Please tell me how wonderful Mexico is!
and what could be "dangerous" there?

Wow No fat chicks!, I'm one of 3?.... that's funny because I share this flat with 2 girls who haven't been victims of a crime either... Mexico City is amazing, and I'm pretty sure is quite different to Tokio, if you miss Japanese food, try with the Deigo, my teacher was daughter of a Japanese mother and said me it was real japanesse food.

Mexico city is definetely kind of dangerous but if you go to the right sites youll find it very nice. Also i reccomend you to visit other parts of Mexico since Mexico city is not the nicest city in Mexico. If you want to visit somwhere near Mexico city I reccomend Queretaro, Guanajuato and Oaxaca. My favorite part of Mexico is the south. If you have a chance go there. Visit the states of Yucatan, Chiapas and Quintana Roo youll love it.

If you think that Mexico City is this little village you're wrong. Mexico City is a huge, huge, huge city. In traffic, you could take over 8 hours crossing the two farthest sides of the city. The city is so populated that it occupies 20% of the entire mexican population in about 1% of the territory of the country.

As someone that has always lived in a huge city that's insanely populated, you won't see much difference here in Mexico City. I haven't been in Tokyo (but would love to go there), but Mexico City is a lot dirtier, has a rainbow from the super multi-millionaires that live in huge palaces in posh neighborhoods to insanely poor people begging for money and food on the street.
You'll also see a lot people blocking traffic marching for some political issue nobody cares about (as a person that grew up in Japan you'll probably find seeing your first marcha to be fascinating if you ever get to see one. If you're really lucky you might see people march naked on the street).

You'll also see a lot of street markets selling pirated movies, cheap chinese clothing and all sorts of illegal goods. You'll also see a lot of street taco joints (I admit it, I love eating in tacos street stands all of the time). Tacos are very delicious and different to Japanese food (at the closest, they might resemble onigiri in the sense that you can put almost anything inside of a taco and it will still be a taco). Be sure to know what you're ordering because they sell .. exotic kinds of meat here.

I personally love pig intestine and cow brain tacos and ate boiled sheep head tacos a few days ago (YUMMY!!!).

You'll love the Garibaldi square if you'd like a nice party (but it is a bit dangerous). Despite the festive nature of mexicans, there is a lot of machismo here where a lot of women aren't treated well. There's a lot of sexual harassment against women.

You'll still find some things that are similar in both countries, but other things are very different here. It can be dangerous (especially for a person that has never experienced street crime before), but if you use common sense you should be fine.

Avoid places like Tepito, Iztapalapa, La Buenos Aires, La Doctores or Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl at night or unless you're specifically with a local. Don't flash a lot of money in the street, avoid dark alleys at night, don't wear very revealing clothing unless you don't mind people sexually harassing you and be careful with pickpockets. People can steal your cellphone when you least expect it.

You'll also discover the microbuses and how dangerous it can be to ride them. I mean dangerous in the sense that bus drivers fill the buses with so many people that people are hanging to a bar for their lives with the doors wide open. Some buses are in really bad shape, it's hard to believe it's even legal for these buses to be still operating!!!

However, Mexico isn't just anarchy. There's a lot of laws that people do take seriously. House building laws are very strict to make sure houses can resist earthquakes.

You'll probably have a great time here.

Mexico city has a high crime rate, but it is not really that bad in the tourist areas. Of course, tokyo is one of the safest cities in the world.
---------------------
Most tourists are more interested in the colonial cities than in Mexico City. The flights from Tokyo goes to Tijuana first where you can transfer to Guadalajara as easily as Mexico City. I would recommend Guadalajara as much more tourist friendly and relaxed than Mexico city. It's a mid sized city (greater Guadaljara is about the same size as greater Miami). Stay in the Quinta Real if you can afford it.

i suggest you don't go there, 1/3 people is a victim of crime is normal Right now, as the president declared war on the drug dealers no other president has ever done this so of course is going to get dangerous but he must not stop. just wait till the presidency gets rid of the trouble makers.
