Mexico Is Very Rich, But Why Are There So Many Poor There?

There are many reasons, and it would be impossible to find just one root cause.

Systemic political corruption means that any attempt to reform the nation economically is nearly impossible to enact.

Education system that is grossly inadequate.

Middle class that is under attack financially often making it very difficult to keep its head above water.

Control of the vast majority of the nation's wealth by a small number wealthy elite.

Criminal organizations that are often the only authority in many Mexican states.

Soaring birth rates among the poor.

Inept social reform coming from the Catholic Church, often just giving lip service to reform, and sometimes duplicitous in the corruption.

Ironically, it too has its share of economic refugees from Central America.

Regional conflicts and Indigenous people's Autonomy movements siphon off resources to combat or keep in check.

Lack of agrarian reform, much of arable land is still held by a few wealthy landowners preventing rural poor from ever getting ahead.

Brain drain that often takes the nation's brightest young professionals to other countries (not just the USA).

And that is just the tip of the ice berg.

Change for the better would probably take a generation to actually occur.

It's the same thing that in many other countries...rich people is the only one who gets a real benefit 'bout the increase and improvement of mexican's economy...it's totally unfair!!!

Unfortunately, in many countries like this the heads of government grab & stash as much wealth as they can for themselves, while their citizens live impoverished lives. Look at many countries in Africa, for example, many of the people are dying of starvation etc, but they are rich in mineral wealth and their leaders don't seem to be suffering.

THE POLITCIANS HAVE ALL THAT MONEY. PRESIDENT ELECT CALDERON HAS ALOT OF WORK AND MANY KNOW DESPITE HE BELONGS TO A CORRUPT PARTY OF PAN partido accion nacional AND DESPITE WHAT PRESIDENT FOX HAS DONE IN ROBBING MANY OF THEIR MONEY.

MEXICO PRODUCES IT'S OWN OIL WITH MANY MORE AND DESPITE IT SHOULD CHARGE 80 CENTS A GALLON LIKE IN COLOMBIA, THERE GOING AT THE SAME PRICE AS U.S. GAS. WITH THE ECONOMY SOOO BAD CAUSE MANY ARE MAKING BILLIONS AND BILLIONS WITH THE CONSEQUENCES THAT MORE THAN 50% OF MEXICO IS POOR AND POVERTY IS REALLY BAD.
SO HOPEFULLY PRESIDENT CALDERON WILL CHANGE IT ALL NO MATTER WHAT.

Cause ppl doesnt realize that they are rich and that they can make a lot of things... a lot of ppl unfortunatly is veeery lazy, they want the goverment to make everything and goverment is really really bad. Actually I think thats MexicoÂ´s problem, the goverment

Because of the culture!!, the money is not well distributed, people are either really rich or really poor, is not like in the us, canada or uk, where everybody has a great standard of life

Also, most of the population is not well educated
