Try Ocean Hotel ( Blvd Kukulcan Km 3.5 formerly Club Carrousel Cancun)
I spent there 8 days for my honeymoon and was just fantastic, is totally refurbished and you can go walking to the attractions or take a bus to the city center and do your own trip (its cheaper to go to the bus station in front of the shopping mall and buy your own bus tickets)
Avoid times like Easter (Holy week) or spring break...not advisable from August to November as it is huriacane season. I would say go between April and July

King of CancĂșn
Any month is a good time to go to CancĂșn. The weather is always the same and there are always people there enjoying the sun and fun. Depends on what you like to do though. If you really like to party and get wild then March and April are good because of all of the springbreakers. Sept.-Dec./Jan. are the more calm months. As far as hotels. If you are young and want a great hotel I would recommend the Riu Caribe (my favorite hotel in CancĂșn). It has a huge pool that is 125 yds. long with three bridges going over it. The beach is huge also measuring in at over 300 yds. long and there isn't any other hotels on either side of Riu Caribe so you have the whole beach to just the people in the hotel. They have an anamacion team, which is a group of locals that work there and they put on the daily activities for you to enjoy such as volleyball, water polo, exercise every morning in the pool, drinking contests. At night they usually have some form of entertainment and then after that around 10 they take whomever wants to go out on the town and get you in to all the clubs as VIP. It's like $60 and you get unlimited alcohol at all the clubs they take you to. It's a great time. It has a huge swim-up bar and you can sit in the pool right by the bar and drink. Also what I like about it is that it has a 24 hour sports bar in it. So, if everyone passes out and you still want to drink you can. It has a pool table, video arcades, internet, food/snacks, lots of flat-screen tv's to watch sports on. They even have free scuba diving lessons right on the resort if you want to try it. It's a fun resort for young adults so you won't have to worry about stuck up or old tourists. It also has five restaurants and a hand-made pizza shack right on the beach where you can get a personal pizza made and drink your favorite alcoholic drink. It's by far the best resort in CancĂșn I think. Enjoy your time when you go...CancĂșn is amazing!!!

ALPHF
Try to avoid:

Oct/ December: Strong wind
December/ February: getting dark around 5pm.

So best time to go: April to June (no tourist and weather ok).

Don't stay in Cancun but around Playa del Carmen as the best beaches, attractions are around there: Boat to Cozumel, Xcaret, Xelha, Cobe, Tulum...

Avoid the Mayan Palace hotel.

Hotels suggested: RIU (off Playa del Carmen), Barcelo (off Playa del Carmen), La Tortuga Hotel & Spa, Magic Blue, Hotel Playa del Karma.

Enter Playa del Carmen, and select by guest reviews

You got some intelligent advice, Le Blanc is the best,
the JW Marriott is our favorite. But if you want to see the very best and best value, go to www.skyvillas.net and check out what you can get for 350 a night. A little too much luxury for most but very very chic 20 stories on the sand in the best section.
Every month is good in Cancun. November, that gets a bad reputation, actually is cool and nice because of the breeze then.
try http://FiveStarCancun.com also ( it is 1/3 the price of the typical hotel )

Any time is the best time to visit Cancun, it's such a gorgeous friendly place! You'd have a hard time not enjoying yourself whenever you went!

The best hotel by far in Cancun is this place called "Le Blanc" it's amazing and has got so much going for it the rooms are modern and spacious, the staff are great and polite, and the facilities and amenities are awesome to. here's a link for it...

Also whilst you're in Cancun you have to visit The Selvatica Canopy Expedition,it's by far the best thing you can do in Cancun, getting emerged in "the jungle" and acting like a monkey! http://www.cancunvista.com/mayanriviera/selvatura_canopy_expedition.htm

A tip[ for when your eating out is to book well in advance in the best restaurants such as Puerto Madero, as they get very busy quickly and are immensely popular. http://www.puertomaderocancun.com/

Have fun on your trip, I hope you enjoy your self =]
