Mexico questions!? |
When I go to Cuernavaca and Mexico City this summer will I be able to find lots of unique and pretty clothing for cheap prices. I am hoping to buy skirts and dresses and jewlery...anyone ever been who knows about the shopping scene? Also, anyone know about the water situation...should I just bring cases of bottled water from the U.S. or is it safe to drink water there? |

about the water, mexicans don't drink the water either, so obviously there is plenty of bottled water. in fact, you can buy those huge containers that they deliver in trucks, for about 19 pesos (once you've paid for the container...about 40 pesos)
as for clothes...yeah, don't want to rain on your parade either but....the clothes are horribly expensive. really, it's terrible!!! clothing is NOT cheap in mexico, that's why people come up the the US to buy their clothes! unless you want to look like a peasant girl...and by all means do NOT dress this way while actually IN mexico...nobody does it. seriously, don't plan on buying clothes in mexico. if you do, you'll overpay and most likely fall into a touristic idea of what mexicans wear, when they actually wear nothing like what you are wanting to buy. |

i would recommend bottled water but the mexican water wont kill you.
the shopping is terrible there! every two steps you walk someone comes up to you and asks to buy something! there are some amazing great deals, but be careful what you buy because you could get offered a lower price somewhere else. i bought a purse made out of gumwrapers in feb. and they wanted up to $60 for it. i told one guy i saw it for $15 and thats what i paid. so be sure to tell the sellers that you were offered a better and lower price. |

Do not drink the water in Mexico, no matter the location. You can buy drinking water once you're there. Jewelry in Mexico is mostly silver, not much gold. Check the dollar amount of goods you are allowed to bring back before you go shopping. |

Cases of bottled water on the plane --- you're not going on a safari. Buy bottled water in Mexico .... everyone drinks it.
You'll find interesting things if you want to dress like a peasant girl or a tourist gone wild .... but cheap ? Mexico is not really cheap |

buy bottled water there i have property in mexico and when i was drinking out of the hose in my back yard i got the number 2ssssssss i have also got stranded in the desert over night and ran out of gatorade and i had do dring from the rio grande it tasted minerly lol but i did not get sick but that was my second year there maybe i just built up a strong imune system there i am leaving to cancun in a week or 2 and stay thre for 2 years or so 22 male oh and clothing yes lots and lotfs of cheap clothing okay quality more female clothes than male clothes dont ask me why they push female clothing hard and be aware make sure you get some body off the street that knows english and spanish and dont buy any thing that had no dollar price on it it is called open for neg if they think you are american or you have mney price goes up if it says $20.00 it means 2 american dollars or 32.65 is like close to 3.25 just rember 100 mexican doallrs is 10 dollas here that is keeping it simple 12 dollars there is like 1.20 here but the peso is droping 10.8 pesos for every american dollar do dot pay in american money pay in pesos because if a plate of food and a beer costs 10 pesso well 1 dollar like i said is 10.8 and you give them a peso you are paying like 8 to 10 cents more than the orignal price its sort of coplicated i been there to much i think e mail me at fccowboy2002@yahoo.com or atentionhore@yahoo.com |

If you are going to be in Cuernavaca and want to buy silver, take the bus to Taxco. The quality there is the best in Mexico and the quantity is tremendous. Also, it is a nice place to visit. You can go and return the same day.
Don't even think about drinking the water. Drink only bottled water that you can buy here in Mexico.
Have a great trip. |

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but as I was just browsing the Yahoo news, it had a headline about dengue fever being a major concern right now. For more information. please look for the article. It said they were sending hundreds of workers to spray major tourist areas. The article itself was written from Mexico City. |

Don´t worry I live in Cuernavaca and in Mexico City, if you are scared from water you can buy bottled water anywhere. And about the shopping the clothes are nor as cheap as you think, there are a lot of malls. and if you want jewelery, when you go to cuernavaca try to go to Taxco, it is one our from there, and they have silver, and it is a beautiful place. |

the water in the city is fine to drink, may just give you a little upset stomach or diarhea, just take some pepto, as far as the shopping scene, everything is priced to sell, nothing costs alot out there, and at most of the locals little stands for merchandise, you can haggle with them to bring the price down, just try to do it, they will act like they are mad, but just keep doing it and if they dont agree, walk away, most of the time they will call you back over, just act like you really really want whatever it is your looking at |
