Mexico should I let my wife go? |
My wife made plans to go to Mexico. I am strongly opposed to it. With all the drug wars The swine flu, The abductions etc etc I don't think it's a good idea. She trusts people and is EXTREMELY naive and completely unaware of her surroundings. This is driving a HUGE wedge in our relationship. Do I have a case or is she right Thanks John |

Well, i am an American living in mexico...along with 1.2 million other Americans and Canadians and i can assure you it is perfectly safe. I am a single woman, and know many others and i travel in Mexico in complete safety...never had a problem. the drug violence is in the BORDER cities. The vast majority of Mexico, including the tourist areas does not have that. The flu problem has been blown waaaaaay out of proportion. It was limited almost entirely to Mexico City...mostly to students of one school. The relatives of those students did not become sick. Today, the news releases are saying that the whole thing was blown up far out of proportion. There are no new cases. and even the World Health Organization is recognizing this flu as far weaker than anticipate, hard to spread, and already fading out. Did you know that there are over 200,000 case of regular old flu in the U.S. every year and an average of 36,000 people a year die from it? So 200 suspected cases of the H1N1 flu is mighty tiny compared to that. No one freaks out about those figures, because the news media does not go berserk over them. An infinitesimal percentage of people here were ill. Well over 99.9999% of all of us here in m
Mexico are not sick and life is absolutely normal. The media blows things up and sensationalizes them. I am FAR safer here than in the U.S. In the great majority of Mexico, crime is far less than in U.S. cities. Not a single person in my state here has the H1N1 flu. Please be assured that it is quite safe for your wife to come to Mexico. My friend and I spent the day today going all over the capital city or our state, a city of 3/4 of a million people, shopping , etc...we are perfectly safe in every way. You mentioned abductions...there have been NO abductions of American tourists...drug gangs have no interest at all in American tourists. They are tied up in battles with each other and the police, in the border towns. Relax, and support your wife in her travel plans. |

First, she doesn't need your permission. All you can do is ASK her not to go. Second, things are being totally being blown out of proportion. Whether she should go to Mexico at this time depends on where in the country she's going. It's a really big country. Utlimately, it's her decision. |

My aunt & uncle had a vacation planned for Mexico and because of everything going on they switched their trip to somewhere else...In all honesty you have every right to be concerned with her going not only for her safely but for the fact that god forbid anything happens to her what it could do to you...If she's overly trusting then i would be very nervous with her going to such a dangerous place right now...I think you should sit down with her and explain that your just scared and don't want the risk of losing her...if you put it in more caring terms instead of sounding like she doesn't have a choice maybe she will see your fear and you wanting her to stay because you love her...you can always promise her a trip someone else or maybe a trip to Mexico once everything is a bit safer...hope i helped and good luck |

Why do all the americans see Mexico as a deadly place? I understand that Mexico has the H1N1 or Swine Flu virus, but Mexico has taken serious measurements to control the virus. Not to mention the new labs Mexico bought which has helped doctors to identify sick people. You shouldnt be that scary, believe me , Mexico is a good country, with good people. It might have some bad things, as every other country in the world. Dont be so pesimist, think positive. If the USA had not begun and created the economic crisis, many things around the world wouldnt be such a problem, and with this I mean unemployment and many other billions of stuff.
I lived in Mexico, ant I loved it, it is a marvelous country with KIND and NON SUPERFICIAL or SHALLOW MINDED people.
You should let you wife, she has the right, I understand you are worried about her, but ''the drug wars. the swine flu, the abductions'' are not a cause for not letting her to travel. The drug wars has been succesful, the swine flu is said to had started in California and it has been almost controlled and isolated in Mexico city, and the abductions thousands of Mexican soldiers have been distributed around the country to keep the security in a good level.

Look man, all the Media Crap has your mind messed up. There are no drug wars, no flu. Stop the madness.
There is NO Health RISK in the Cancun area at all. There are NO Travel Alerts are issued for this area at all. Cancun is open and doing business as usual. The strong swine type of flu is all over the world now, not just Mexico City. The W.H.O. says, "To restrict travel would be useless and not helpful". E-mail me directly in Cancun at robert@cancuncatamarans.com I have lived here 8 years. Anyone that says Mexico is not safe is an uninformed fear-monger and not a very smart person. They are only out to spread fear without knowing the facts, plain and simple.

if you deeply care for your wife dont let her go. We dont yet have a cure for swine flu only a vaccine. She shouldn't be going to a place where a new desease has just be found |
