Look for an all inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta or in Nuevo Vallarta. You will probably have charter flights from close to your US location to exactly this location and they all have excellent all-day activities and beach sports for the kiddies with trained personnel. They are very safe from all points of vue: drinking water, activities, kids get a special bracelet which do not permit them to purchase alcohol nor cigarettes. One of the most well known is Club Maeva, but there are many others.

Cancun or Cozumel is a great choice.....There are many choices for good hotels, you will have to research on line to find the best deals....One thing that is really great is the food and restaurants....They are very affordable and the food is great....I went to Hawaii last summer and to me, Mexico has just as beautiful beaches and is MUCH more affordable...

Stay away from Acapulco....Too much drug wars going on in that city....

Baja California Norte...Rosarito and down the Pacific coast to Ensenada. Lots places for families with kids. The old Rosarito Beach Hotel is great for kids, lawns, beaches close to shopping and restaurants, many local families with kids so they will have interaction with Mexicans. Good for international relations. Prices are relatively reasonable. Be careful of really upscale resorts because your kids will just meet tourist kids just like them.

Look here for a list of the hotels in Zihuanatejo. It's a place away from the crowded Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco. Relax and restaurants on the beach, good seafood .... MMmmmmmm

A great option is Riviera Maya. It beautiful without being too pricy and resorts such as the Iberostar Paraiso Maya, Iberostar Tucan, are all inclusive. They are tropical and lush, just absolutely gorgeous with fantastic beaches and lots of activities for families. Cozumel is nice but its an island better suited for divers and beach-bums. Cancun is also very, very nice but you must understand that its more populated. However, if you chose to go to Cancun, Dreams Cancun is an excellent choice. They have a new dolphinarium with "Dolphin view" rooms so that is a very nice touch and the General Manager is a wonderful guy and does a great job taking care of the resort.
