My Birth certificate, SS card and License are all in different names, will I have any problems at customs?

Additional Details
I guess an explanation is in order. I am female, Birth certificate is in Maiden name, married twice and have not changed by SS yet. I hav documentation for both marriages showing the name changes. From the response I have gotten I think my best bet is first to update my SS card and then get a passport to make sure i don't end with an extended vacation(in Jail)

thanks for the feedback.

why do u have different names on your primary identification cards? how do u ever use them?

you're lucky if ever you reach customs ...lol

Absolutely. They freak out over different spellings or a missing middle initial.

Try to get your paperwork straightened out.

JoeSchmoe06
why would it cause an issue so long as your passport is correct?

I suggest you use the fence, like the rest of the Mexican'ts.

most definately - especially with everything going on right now - id say before you get to customs try getting everything to have the same names

More than likely!

Not unless you consider a problem as being detained for hours or days trying to explain why all of your identification is not the same, And still not being able to travel where you wanted to go.

probably

I think you answered your own question realy!
I too have been married and now divorced, and didn't change my name. I'm not getting a passport (to save money) all you need to do is make sure your ss card and drivers lic. have the same lastname on them. And take your current marriage lic. with you. (you will not need your 1st marriage lic. since you no longer go by that name, and it will not be on your birth certificate, drivers lic. or ss card.) So Birth certificate, current ss card, current drivers lic, and current marriage lic. You don't need a passport until Jan 2007.

a lot of problems...... get everthing in the same name ASAP!!!

If you find yourself going through customs you should have a passport. If you are in a situation such as entering from mexico or canada and don't need one they will just ask for your license not the rest of it. They assume you had to show all of this stuff to get your license. If you have credit cards, bank cards, etc. in the same name you will be fine. Odds are slim but if you do get asked and things are in a different name you will have a big issue. You really need to take some time to sort all of this out, not only for this but for many other reasons. This takes time so again, you could just go down to the post office and get a passport. It is good for 10 years and is the definitive form of ID.

Your main problem is getting back into the US. If your name change is because of adoption and/or marriages, just take the certificates with y ou showing the different names. You'll need a passport next year to travel any place, so you should get one now as you can get it in 2 days; depending on where you live, etc.
Decide on what name you want to go by and verify it with the necessary documents. You should keep your maiden name as y our middle name if you remarry and take his name. It sounds like you are losing your identity buy taking your married names. Its not only old fashion, a macho thing for the guy, but it messes things up otherwise.

You will probably be arrested as a terrorist, then Bush will make a proclamation about how America is yet a little bit safer, but not yet safe!

Now what kind of Q is that ,you know the Answer. you'll probably go to jail when they find out your past.

Lupin IV
You sure will. I dont know how you could get a SS with a diff name than you b-day certificate.

If you had it legally changed it will be recorded somewhere.

Wibble
It is common to have a different name from the birth cert. Especially if you are a F and married But the Social and Drivers should be the same. Is 1 in the married name of your spouse and the othe ryour maiden name? You may need to explain. Or bring the marriage certificate as proof

If your birth certificate is in your maiden name (if you're married), then showing you marriage license would help. If your SS card and driver's license are different, why? Were you married twice? Were you adopted? I need to have more information.

Most definatly. For convienance you should have a passport and liscence that match.
