My boyfriend wants to visit Tijuana Mexico this Saturday with his friend. I'm not going. Their going to go out?

drinking there? There both in their mid-twenties. They don't speak spanish. Is this really unsafe. He has a honda and his friend has a Miata. Should they be worried about being robbed, cars stollen etc? Is there a better part of mexico for them to visit? They would be driving from Las Vegas coming back on Sunday or Monday.

My niece lives in Tijuana and their car was stolen right off the main street in downtown area.
First of all, I wouldn't even think of going to TJ today.
If they're in Vegas, why go to TJ in the first place?
If they want sex, they can get it in NV.
If they are of legal drinking age (and they are) it's a lot safer drinking in a NV casino than in TJ.
If they MUST go, leave the car(s) on the U.S. side. That's safer and you don't need to get MX Car Insurance or fight the crazy TJ traffic.
I was almost hit broadside down there by a bus that ran a red light!!! Very close call....
If they MUST go to MX, try Tecate (a little east). It's quieter, more tranquil and is a bit more safer.
For even more fun and games, try Mexicali. (That's the capitol for Baja North and just across the border from Calexico, CA).
There's only a few reasons why two young men want to go to TJ. None of them is to be benefit their health or safety. They jeopardize both when they cross the border. Especially if they don't even have a rudimentary knowledge of the languarge.
So, the first question they need to answer honestly...WHY do they want to go?
It would be much better to save some money and spend a mini-vacation flying to Cabo, Mazatlan or Puerto Vallarta.
Much safer, more things to do.
But get another opinion.
You might ask your question on a website dedicated to Baja.
Go to
www.bajanomad.com
and ask your question there. Replies give current driving conditions, affairs, safety hints, highway conditions, threats, etc and are posted by travelers to and from Baja or by those that actually live there.

Advise them to stay only in the touristy areas, not bring too much money and not get too drunk, excercise caution, etc. Usually tourist areas should be safe because people involved in the tourist industry will try to keep them that way so they have customers.

If they can go somewhere else, I'd say come to Ensenada (1 and a half hour drive from the border), there is drinking and partying here but it is MUCH SAFER than Tijuana.

well i am mexican and i wont even go over there. Its dangerouse out there especially because they like kidnapping people. Just tell them to be safe and dont flash any money or jewlry. and dont get too drunk and watch eachothers backs. Oh yeah and there is a lot of pretty prostitutes over there so if i were you I would go with him.

it is best to park in a secured parking area once they cross the boarder. You don't need to really know Spanish to communicate in Tijuana...a lot of service guys go over there. I have not gone there since the mid-80, but I drank and danced several nights away in TJ during my younger years. They really need to be safe and parked in secured place (and yes, I am repeating myself here)...getting stone drunk there is never a great idea, but if they are aware of their surroundings and stay to main strip...they should be fine.

My brother drives down to Rosarito all the time. They have a Papas & Beer there I think. A lot of people from California go there. Especially on the weekends. TJ too. They should be ok. Just tell them to be very careful driving because the drivers over there are NUTS! I was very lucky for a long time but eventually my luck ran out and some idiot hit my van trying to pass me on the left when I was making a left hand turn! OMG some people...lol

I've been to Tijuana twice. It was 3 of us women. We felt safer staying on the main strip of Tijuana. There are lots & lots of little side streets. We don't drink so we had no desire to find the bars. I'd say, yes, definitely worry about where you park, where you walk to & be aware of your surroundings. I'd suggest if they are going to be drinking stay in an area that is well lighted & surrounded by other people...don't go wandering around looking for other places to drink.
I haven't been to other places in Mexico so I can't suggest anything about that.
I hope your boyfriend & his friend stay safe & have a good time.

its only unsafe if you are in the drug bussiness. I know because living near border just carry a cell phone and be careful
