i just got back from mexico city today, i was there for 8 days, its real Safe, as long as you dont buy,sell or do (drugs) .

Just be very careful if you go dont take expensive cars or anything because they will take it, also try not to wear any jewelry when your out. If your out in La Plaza try to dont stay after dark. My family is not going, just because of them, there everywhere! A couple months ago they kidnapped a cousin of mine and they were asking for 2 million pesos. The family had to sell there house in cali and all there autos and lands and their house that they had in mexico to raise up the money. But he's back now, but they took away his 08 Tahoe. Apparently they thought he had money, and thats why they did what they did. All these americans say it is safe, but los Zetas ain't stupid, there not going to mess with an american, if they do they'll have the US behind their butt! BE CAREFUL!! Ive talked to several mexican's from several different parts of mexico, and they say zetas are there too.

Down here is pretty safe . Just take the usual precautions. Most of the violence is in the border with the US.

Yucantan (Merida, Pt Progresso)
Quintana Roo (Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel, etc.)
Puebla (Puebla)
Oaxaca (Oaxaca City, Pt. Escondido, Huatulco)
and Los Cabos

Don't worry, yes it's true there is a gang called Los Zetas but you don't see them like all of the time and they don't rob/kill people everyday.

They are like Cripz and Bloodz. They exist but you don't see one of them outside of your house or on the news everyday. Yeah they kill and rob but it's not everyday.

You're safe, don't worry about it. You'll love Mexico, specially if you go to the beaches. I can tell you right now, you won't even want to leave. haha

well, there are plenty of gangs everywhere. mexico has their fare share too, but many of them are on the boarder. those that are in mexico city are like what you would see in new york. there are plenty of places in new york city that are safe....some places in new york and mexico city (especially at nite) are best avoided. but then again, that's what taxi's are for!

many small towns are great fun. so many towns there make their living on the tourist buck, so they are safe too.

some things that are not safe? well, driving in the desert north at night (or some other places near the coast of michoacan state for example), walking around at midnight in the poor suburbs of mexico city or guadalajara, doing drugs. walking in dark parks late at night, hanging out at the boarder region on the texas/mexico boarder. being a single woman wearing skimpy clothing away from the beach.

do you plan to do any of those activities? i thought not.

now remember, mexico is a third world country. crimes of opportunity (robbing) do happen, but just take the normal precautions and have fun.

I'm from mexico city, and yeah, i know you have heard about that, but don't worry, you can come here, and believe me you'll enjoy it, don't worry about coming to this country, you can visit all the beautiful places we have here, beaches, and the people here is very funny and you will feel safe here, don't worry and come to mexico

I spent 18 days in mexico city my last vacation and nothing happened to me.
just be careful on what you are doing, and where you are going.
And yep in all of the countries world wide, theres always a gang, not only in Mexico, just I repeat, be careful.
