You need a passport to FLY to Mexico, but passports will not be needed to DRIVE or take the bus to Mexico until summer of 2008. So... do THAT! Just drive, or take the bus. See website below to verify this information. |

if she's pregnant, just go. just take a bus and walk over...(bring your driver's license and copy of birth certificate for tourist visa) you don't want to miss your child's birth.
when you come back, just allow plenty of time when crossing. they will detain you and get annoyed with you...but you cannot be turned away from your home country.
don't worry about it, your wife is more important.
ps...maybe should have practiced a little prior proper planning. i mean....hello....you've known she's been pregnant right?? what were you doing over the last 8 months? |

Similarly in the UK, you can get a passport quickly if you pay the express fee, provided you have all the necessary supporting documentation. Even without paying the expres fee, the passport will not usually take very long.
As a matter of interest, why have you left it so late? Surely you've known for a long time when the baby is due and that you need a passport? |

You can not FLY into Mexico w/out a passport, but you can fly into San Diego and either walk across or taxi etc. then bus to where ever you need to go. |

I paid the express fee and it took me 11 days to get my passport. As long as you are an American citizen and can prove it (birth cert, etc), you should be able to visit her by November. |

You can't legally in any way I know of. The laws changed January of 2007 I think.
Can she not come to you?
Why can you not get a passport before January? There are private businesses that specialize in getting passports quick. I got my wife one for a trip to Mexico in about 11 days. Yes, you pay a bit more, but if your wife is about to give birth to your child, then I think it should be at the top of your priority list.
If not, and you are legally married, you might try talking to a Mexican consulate. If you have a birth certificate and a valid driver's license, and a marriage license, they might could pull some strings. |
