Does anyone know where i can find directions on how to get from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas?PS. No Mapquest?
Mapquest doesnt work for some reason. Im guessing that mapquest can only give you directions if the place is within the US border.

Need information about planning a vacation to Mexico?

I am wanting to plan a vacation to Mexcio next summer for my husband, our 8 yr old daughter, our nanny, and me. I am totally in the dark here. We kind of want the beach and a few tourist things to see. What is the best city to visit? And maybe were I can find some information about the areas that are best.
Thanks in advance!!

You don't want to go there. Trust Me.

Drug Cartels are taking over the country and violence is running rampant. The police are virtually powerless.

The last two answer are wrong... its happening in every big country, i think... Please feel free to visit Mexico and enjoy of our culture... Im from Guadalajara and i can say that it's the best city in Mexico and of course at the same state, Jalisco, there is a wonderful beach... Puerto Vallarta... if you want to taste an originally drink... Tequila was born there... again feel free to go anywhere in Mexico... you can enjoy everything...

You can find some information here:::

enjoy...

dear god. you aren't going to get raped or kidnaped in a tourist area! be smart don't keep money out in the open and dont wear flashy jewlery!!!
anyway...i think that the playa del carmen area is nice ive been there 4 times and its beautiful. i don't know what your budget is but i would try the Barcelo Maya Palace. its beautiful and reasonably priced and has a ton of things for kids (an entire pool play ground water park!)
and fun for adults too. right on the beach and the food is excelent for a all inclusive hotel! check it out through jetblue.com/getaways.

you wont regret it its amazing!!

I recommend Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta also, because Guadalajara has a lot of culture and good things to see, if you want to buy crafts and souvenirs Tonala is right up the road.Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful beach and is surrounded buy many other beautiful beaches. If your worrying about getting bumbed off or robbed don't stray off the main road.In other words don't go into the jungles or make yourself too secluded.I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, but stay close to home like in the resort areas and you should be great.Oaxaca is also a fairly safe place, I lived their for awhile and it was cool! Mexico is beautiful, enjoy!

if you want beaches there are 3 places that i would recommend.

cancun. the actual beach (sand) is amazing. near there is playa del carmen, (more expensive) and isla mujeres (less expensive) here you can visit tulum and chichen iza which are pyramids/ruins. and you can visit a few other towns inland such as merida (larger) and vallodalid (smaller)

acapulco. you can do perhaps everything here just as you can in cancun. you can take a day trip to taxco the silver city in the mountains (i recommend an overnight there). you could start in mexico city, and make your way to acapulco via taxco too.

Cabo san lucas. can be quite the party place (like parts of cancun are), but you can definately get away from that. lands end is there, and you can drive up to todos santos, a little town to the north.

i recommend these three places because they are near some inland stuff. you can get a feel for some place other than the beach. they all have lots of water sports and water animals.

cancun's inland places are not typical of the rest of mexico, but there are so many of them to visit. i love the pyramids in the yucatan peninsula.

cabo's inland places are also somewhat different than the rest of mexico, as they are desert places on the peninsula.

if you want a smaller place, you can try near by,. nearby is the mountain town of colima. i have not been to manzanillo, but i hear it has some nice all inclusives if you are into that sort of thing. there are also some regular hotels too. a nice place to relax.

hope this helps

It“s all about your taste and what you believe your family will like. I guess the best choices (based on what you said) are either Cancun or Los Cabos. In my opinion, I“ll stick to Cancun, more suitable and enjoyable specially if you have kids. Los Cabos is also pretty but more adult oriented.

Cancun is your hub to visit Tulum, Chichen itza and the superb parks of Xcaret and Xel-ha, all these places are between 2-3hs from Cancun. Also Merida is 30 min from Cancun, a must see, do not miss it. If you can, try to stay in Playa del Carmen, 1-2hrs from Cancun and closer to the placed I mentioned.

PD: Im a foreigner, I live in Mexico and I do travel abroad a lot, USA, Europe, Middle East, Asia. Mexico is one of the the safest country I know, way safer than USA. Dont get fooled by the ignorants telling you not to travel.

My number one question for you is for how long do you plan to stay.

My favorite place to go is Cancun, just because there are many things to do in visit near that city, like Xcaret or Xel Ha (where your daughter can swim with dolphins, now how cool is that.)

Go up to Yucatan and visit Merida, Valladolid and Chichen Itza.

Or plan a Mexico City tour, with many museums, and being in the center of the country it is easy to travel to near states, like Puebla *with its many churches*, or Toluca where you can visit the Cosmovitral.

There are so many places....
