I'm looking to purchase a summer home in Mexico. Something family oriented ( we have 3 kids ), rural, country, beautiful views, and cheap or reasonable (nothing over $200K) -=--- any suggestions of locations? (we DO speak spanish) ---- never been to Mexico....any helpful info would be appreciated.---- and please note...crime/safety is big key... we'd like somewhere to just relax as a family, alone or meet friendly neighbors and enjoy our summer vacation :)

Sounds to me like you'd really prefer someplace *NOT* a tourist destination.
I think I'd suggest someplace in Central Mexico, close to one of the traditional highland mining cities (the historic bahio region). A lot of American retirees love San Miguel de Allende, but I think I'd rather be close to Guanajuato --- beautiful region, mild summers, easy access to good transportation.
Morelia would be really nice too, or maybe a town like Patzcuaro with tons of character.
There are some interesting places not far from Guadalajara. Another popular place with the U.S. retirees is Lake Chapala, just south of the city.
Just a few ideas... |

Somewhere on the Yucatan peninsula (Cancun - Cozumel area) or Acapulco on the west coast. |

Here's another vote for the Lake Chapala area. Click the link below and click the "Search Properties" at the top. Then enter "1" in the Bathrooms box (this will eliminate all the vacant lots) then click "search". This will give you a list of homes in order by price. You then can click the MLS ID to read a description of each home and see pictures.
Check the webboard in the second link to see what people living there are talking about.
And there are many benefits to joining the Lake Chapala Society if you decide to move there. See the third link. |

depends on what are you looking for, Puerto Vallarta in New Vallarta has some nice condos right on the beach, so than Acapulco and Cancun, but for $200,000 US I think Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco you will find some thing very nice for 200,000, not Cancun. La Paz can also be a good choice.
As for the properties inland try Cuernavaca, San Miguel de Allende, Ajijic, Avandaro, Tequisquiapan, tepoztlan, Mazamitla, tapalpa, Colima. |
