If hitting Ensenada, drive a few miles farther south and check out 'La Bufadora'. (The Blowhole) Pretty tight tidal surges create an impressive spray over 200' high.
Quaint little tourista village.
In Ensenada-gringo-friendly mariachis at La Manzana Verde, just down the street from Senior Frogs.
On the drive down, stop in Rosarito for some langoustas at El Nido's. Good, cheap seafood, yum!
In TJ-go around Avenida Reveloucion for some vendor cart tacos-killer grub.
In Ensenada, the street-fare grub is pescado tacos with fresh fish and sour cream dressing over cabbage and pico-de-gallo. Fresh fruit vendors, too, with pineapple, mango, melons and strawberry offerings.
As far as cautions, I'd buy plenty auto insurance, pre-trip.
Stay with large groups-don't splinter off and wander alone. Don't wander around after hours-go back to your motel. Don't even pretend that you'd like to engage in illicit activities. Avoid all pushy strangers. Keep to the beaten trail-take the toll roads-cuota road. Be aware of conditions at all times. I've experienced white-painted rocks as lane markers and cans full of burning tar as flashing beacons.
Lastly, don't forget that each adult is allowed one liter of duty-free(cheap) liquor upon returning across the border. That's the size bigger than the standard 'fifth' size, so don't get cheated!
Wish I wuz goin'... |

Stay on the toll roads if you can.... dont get lost at night... take your passport and keep a $50 in your shoe... ( will solve most problems) and if the problem doesnt go away... get the other $50 out of your other shoe.... dont take your benz.... dont urinate in public... those are my main rules i follow.... |

The one thing I will recomend is that you eat at Puerto Nuevo. It's a touristy restaurant area between Tijuana and Ensenada where they have THE BEST lobster tacos. I can't wait to eat those again! |

It is kind of crazy to have a guy here in this group give you ideas about Mexico being an unstable country when this section is dedicated to give you info about a country not just to get you scared. I am Mexican but I look as any U.S. citizen and I have never had a problem in Mexico. First things first, do not act like a tourist, try to be friendly with people but don't get to person, don't pay to much for anything because that will mark you as an easy prey. I would like to give you confidence in that you can travel at any time in those roads, without having anyone attacking you but the best advise is to drive during day and rest at night somewhere safe. Have fun and try to forget that you are in some other country, it is a country that has lots of "gringos" living in those places where you will visit. enjoy and take your own water. |

I'd suggest not going at all... Very unstable country, water will make you very sick, if you do something that is 'illegal' in their country you are screwed... they will rip you off, theift is very big, food will make you sick, police are crooked.. and yes kidnappings.. |
