Look i live in Tijuana Mexico. Nothing is gong on. If there are "drug wars" its between them. They wont hurt you. Ive lived in Mexico all my life. Its normal. Its like the issue in Alabama (not sure is alabama) A white guy shot 10 people, then killed himself. Mexicans are corrupt, but will not kill an innocent person. Theu drug deals are between them. Dont worry. You are OK if you go to Cancun. Just stay in the tourist areas, dont talk to strangers, and dont show off your "expensive" items such as purses, shoes, ect...
But dont worry. you will be just fine. Have a blast. The U.S has more crazy people. =]

thank you

As long as you stay away from drugs you're ok, drug war is between the drug dealers.

also:

Stay sober
Don't go alone with strange people

And do the normal stuff for self protection that you would do in any big city:

Don't go to the problematic places
Don't walk by yourself late at night

BTW bad things can happen anywhere, just think in Germany.

Drug wars have been going on for years. I don't know why it's all over the news all of a sudden. Plus they always have alerts around this time (spring break) you just don't pay attention if you are not traveling there. Use common sense. I am going to cancun in a couple of weeks and this didn't stop me from booking.

I'm traveling to Mexico City for work next week.

As is when you travel anywhere (be it within the US, Canada, Mexico or abroad) use common sense.

The US State Department website has available the following information:

"While millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico each year (including thousands who cross the land border every day for study, tourism or business), violence in the country has increased recently. It is imperative that travelers understand the risks of travel to Mexico, how best to avoid dangerous situations, and whom to contact if one becomes a crime victim. Common-sense precautions such as visiting only legitimate business and tourist areas during daylight hours, and avoiding areas where prostitution and drug dealing might occur, can help ensure that travel to Mexico is safe and enjoyable."

"The greatest increase in violence has occurred near the U.S. border. However, U.S. citizens traveling throughout Mexico should exercise caution in unfamiliar areas and be aware of their surroundings at all times. Mexican and foreign bystanders have been injured or killed in violent attacks in cities across the country, demonstrating the heightened risk of violence in public places. In recent years, dozens of U.S. citizens have been kidnapped across Mexico. Many of these cases remain unresolved. U.S. citizens who believe they are being targeted for kidnapping or other crimes should notify Mexican officials and the nearest American consulate or the Embassy as soon as possible, and should consider returning to the United States."

Also included is a list of Consulate offices, Consulate Agencies and the US Embassy. As well as websites to check and numbers to call for more information.

Drug cartels are in war with the law enforcement.
Drug cartels is the biggest most dangerous gang in mexico and spreading in the united states. They like to recruit people to join their gang and if they choose you to join and you decide that you don't want to join their gang, then they will not hesitate to kill you.

please, get a clue!!!

Yea its not a very good idea to go to Mexico right now. There are numerous drug wars going on including in places you wouldn't expect like Cozumel and Cancun. If I were you I wouldn't go right now...could be dangerous.

TCC
It's always a bad time to go to Mexico for a vacation because of the constant drug wars going on. Also, the fact that the police down there are so corrupt that they will actually arrest you and rob you in the process.
This has been going on for years and I highly doubt that it will end anytime soon. So, I recommend not going to Mexico period because you're putting your life in danger.
