Packing it up and Moving to Mexico?? ?

I lived in a really nice part of Mexico for 3 years and had a pretty good job while there. Being Mexico of course I didn't make much $$ and I had been itching to get back to the US for a long time, most of the time I was there actually. My wife is from Mexico and my son was born there.

Now we are here in the US and I am making $45,000 / year in a pretty prestigious sales job (I net just under $3 K / Month). To be honest I'm not really into the current job and it wears me out. The experience is great but I don't see hardly any room for internal growth either.

So now my old job in Mexico wants me back (IBM). They are willing to pay me a lot more than what I was making, but still it would be significantly less than what I'm making now (in the Mexico job I'd be banking about $2 K a month, about $800 less).

The Mexico job is way more chill and also opens all kinds of doors, but I'd be making less. Of course we can live on less in Mexico but we really struggled to get by when we lived there before. To be honest, I think me and my family actually did better in terms of quality of life and just being content overall in Mexico, but it's all about moving up and not stepping backward. They let me work from home when I was with IBM too which was probably the coolest thing ever. I hate to just abandon my 'American Dream' (all my family is here too) but if we would be happier in Mx then maybe thats the answer?

So... do I take my old job back which is way more flexible and provides better experience, but with less pay? Or do I stick it out at my current job because of the better $$$?

Milkey spent many years in Europe...............In his 20's.....Great time in Mikey's life.................Europe forever changed me.......
Mikey chased the almighty dollar in the US for many years..............
Mikey is now a professional beach bum , retired at age 42................
I know the difference between a Mexican and American in their lifestyles and expectations of life ............
Mikey realize that until one leaves the " American " behind , he cannot become one with the country he has chosen. Leave your American expectation's behind, and except life on Mexican terms and one should prosper here. Try and change the chosen country and one will return defeated.

Mexico did not change in your absence. You however have changed...
Mexico will not change upon your return......You however, probably will............

Honestly,I don't think any of us can answer the question, but more of giving opinions, and a different view of what you said
But if you're making more money in the U.S. and you aren't happy, then why continue? Why make those thousands of dollars if you aren't going to use them well and if you aren't going to enjoy working.
When I visited my grandma in mexico this January, I did notice that the life in mexico is more calm, it's not as rushed as it is in the U.S, you get more time to yourself after a day's work.
You could work out some things with the company in mexico to see if they could raise your pay within a reasonable time after starting again, just so that you know you'll be making the right choice with regards to pay.
And think about what you defined the "american dream' as. You can get a house that's just as beautiful, if not more beautiful in Mexico. You could go on amazing vacations in Mexico, and the U.S. too.

You have lived in the US and in Mexico and worked in both countries. You have all the info you need to make the decision, no one can make it for you. Go where you will be the happiest. In the end, happiness is much more important than money. You can live well in either country.

Well, I'm in the same situation as you, except I make much less money. The whole time I was in Mexico all I could think about was how bad I wanted to go back to the U.S. Now that I'm back here I realize I was a lot happier in Mexico.

To answer your question, I think you should go back. I am in two months and I can't wait.

go back to mexico... its better there

I can answer that question.I lived in Mexico in two different atmospheres the coast and the mountains and loved it mucho! I worked their also as a teacher and I love that too!If I was you I would take the less money and more knowledge trip. And you can live their fairly cheap if you look around for a simple place. But if you want to live high on the hog well then of course your gonna be scrapping your teeth. I had a two bedroom house in Manzanillo with front yard, back porch and the ocean eight blocks away and payed $145.00 U.S. dollars a month for rent.If I had $2 K a month in Mexico I'd be a King. You gotta know how to budget. If you want luxury stay in the states.

Go back to Mexico. You are lucky you have a job waiting for you there. You may be making less, but after you compare all your bills, you will probably be able to save/spend the same amount as in the US. Being happy is way better than the money. I am making that same move hopefully at the end of the year, but I have no job waiting for me unfortunately.
